Nivea Sun. The new summer feeling: light & non-sticky
Weekend Guide

I'm trying to avoid talking about the weather for this weekend. Aside from being the default for when we Englishmen run out of things to say, I've had it up to here. Really. Instead, I'm concentrating on a solid diet of art and theatre (to make me feel intellectually superior to the camping Glasto-multitude), and some hefty drinking and dancing (so I don't feel totally left-out in every other category - except the camping in the middle of a bog bit, of course).

This week's guide is brought to you in association with Nivea, , whose innovative light-textured formula feels like a second skin, it is instantly absorbed and is as light and fresh as a summer breeze. And with their new SPF 50 option you can get maximum protection. Available in SPF 6, 10, 20, 30 & New for 2008 SPF 50.

FRI DANCE PARTY 2000 SAT NIGHTCLUB SUN I SCREAM SUNDAYS

FRIDAY

djPony Friday
Well who'd have thunk it? The Hoxton Pony, erstwhile West-End-in-the-East-End, City-ized Hoxton hang out, seems to be pulling out all the stops as far as music line-ups go. Whilst tonight's guests, Heartbreak, were seemingly triple-booked, Computer Blue's Fonteyn is in to lead the electrocarnage. Seemingly, they are already getting a bit touchy about puns of the night 'going a bit pony'. Handy, then, that they're anything but.

Time:
8pm-2am
Place:
The Hoxton Pony, 104-108 Curtain Rd, EC2A 3AH
Cost:
Free

MusicThe 46664 Concert
Yes, despite all the hardship and struggle that has marked his life, he's still going strong. And yes, he is the saviour of the new world, a candle of hope in the cold darkness of the modern world. But sod Glasto, can you imagine if Nelson Mandela actually sings a duet with Amy Winehouse? Despite him turning 90, I'm still not sure who looks worse at the moment...

Time:
4pm
Place:
Hyde Park, W1
Cost:
£65

If your idea of dancing involves shuffling back and forth till you gain the power of invisibility, spandexed husband and wife team Duotard have the cure. Their interactive dance video - Dance Can Du! - will get even the most reticent ready for the spinning wheel of musical genres. And you thought spandex was just for circus freaks, yoga addicts and sexual deviants.

Time:

SATURDAY

MusicZonino 3.6
I find festivals slightly disconcerting. It's the mud mostly. And then there's the 'my tent is not your toilet' issue. Thankfully, The Windmill promises a swamp free zone with the same monster musical ethos, with acts including Maths Class, Calories, Screaming Tea Party and Tesselators, and all from the comfort of the great indoors.

Time:
4pm - late
Place:
The Windmill, 22 Blenheim Gdns, SW2 5BZ
Cost:
£6

otherHide & Seek Party
Ah, Saturday night house parties. Everything's great, until the morning's in a mid-flow and that game of hide 'n' seek becomes inevitable. You know, unfamiliar faces lurking in the loo, drunken strangers behind your sofa, a few trapped inside the wardrobe. At least here you can skip the pretense and get straight to the silliness. Knob Karaoke anyone?

Time:
8pm - 3am
Place:
Cosmo Bar, 50 Clerkenwell Rd, EC1M 5PS
Cost:
£5

djNightclub
So, we all know about that thing they call art rock: philosophical lyrics accompanying a sound most generically described as 'experimental'. Well, if you fancy something more literal (that actually includes art), try writhing in ecstasy to some dark disco, making hedonistic shapes with the Nuke em All brigade and joining artist Matthew Stone for his 'After Hours Salon'. Just don't expect a new 'do.

Time:
9pm- 4am
Place:
ICA, The Mall, SW1Y 5AH
Cost:
£12

Yumbrella
Fruit bowls are for life, not just for children's still life experiments. Whilst the finger painting rugrats have their mothers to keep them on the nutritional straight and narrow, grown ups need a little fun with their 5 a day too. Enter the Yumbrella, an upside down parasole bowl with lace print dish and banana hanger handle. Mummy may I?

otherTapas Fantasticas
Package holidays, dear readers, are soon to be a thing of the past: no more last minute deals or low cost airlines in 2009. Boo. So instead of jetting off to Costa del Whatnot, spend this weekend enjoying Spain on your doorstep, with flamenco, free wine and tapas, and the chance to win a trip to Rioja. Raffle rigging - could be the vacation strategy of next year.

Time:
12pm - 6pm

artRichard Prince: Continuation
What do you get if you rub the naughtiness of Kate Moss in a lacquered, white nurse's outfit against a risqué snap of a 10 year-old Brooke Shields, wrapped in a curious penchant for sculpting American muscle cars and recycling the glossy aesthetic of Marlboro cowboys? Sexed-up controversial cutter-and-paster of 80s pulp-fiction, magazines, and pop-culture: Richard Prince of course.

Time:
10am-6pm
Place:
Serpentine Gallery, Kensington Gardens, W2 3XA

musicI Scream Sundays
Since the long distant demise of the multicoloured monster that was Boombox, the battle is still raging for this summer's heir to it's Sunday throne of institutional debauchery. New favourite is this bright, brash blend of polysexual, electro-edged mayhem which kicks off tonight. 'I scream, you scream, we all scream for Sundays!' Feels like an acid-tinged rendition of my childhood.

Time:
7pm-2am
Place:
Macbeth, 70 Hoxton St, N1 6LP
Cost:
Free, £5 after 8pm

Albert & Pearl
Quirky vintage fittings, check. Retro wallpaper, check. Wood panelling and squidgy sofas, check. Yup, the new incarnation of what used to be the Medicine Bar has all the prerequisite bits and bobs we've come to expect from our local tavern.

If you're looking for steak and kidney pie or chunky chips this is not the place for you, however. The food is taken care of by Liliana Tamberi, who grew up on the Tuscan coast and went on to open Food Lab deli on Essex Road, so there's a vast selection of charcuterie, olives and dips - we particularly liked the 'candle-warmed' cep dip - then there are smaller, sharing plates of things like warm chicken liver pate with capers, anchovies and toasted Tuscan bread and croquettes of monkfish and prawn with deep fried artichokes and tartar sauce.

With juices freshly made on the premises, the cocktails on offer are tip-top - choose from an Upper Street Spritz (like a spritzer but with the addition of peach puree and lemon juice) or push the boat out and share a Pearl's Punch, designed for two, made with passion fruit and mango vodka, fresh strawberries, raspberries and apple juice and topped off with champagne.

You'll have to pay a couple of quid to get in after 9pm on a Friday or Saturday but we think it's worth it.

Hours:
Sun-Weds 12pm-12am / Thurs 12pm-1am / Fri & Sat 12pm-3am
Place:
181 Upper Street, N1 1RQ
Cost:
£30

Coach & Horses
You don't need us to tell you that birthdays are a great excuse to indulge and neither does this superior boozer, which has consistently picked up Time Out, Square Meal and Evening Standard awards year after year.

This year is the Clerkenwell foodie favourite's fifth so they're throwing caution to the wind by offering customers all sorts of delectable deals. Swig a glass of champagne, Sea Breeze or Bloody Mary for a fiver, tuck into a plate of five select cheeses for the same or simply make the most of their brilliantly priced lunch deals; select two small plates - grilled asparagus with chopped duck egg and sardines on toast for instance - and a glass of wine for a tenner. Can't say fairer than that guvnor!

The family-run pub is due for a busy July with the Italian Festival and Procession of our Lady of Mount Carmel coming up on the 20th - book now for the 'magnifico' feast they're planning on the Sunday or pop along to a wine tasting on the 16th. There's also a food-themed quiz on 9th July to raise money for Action Against Hunger with teams captained by such gourmet luminaries as Lucas Hollweg.

Now who says we don't keep you entertained?
