I've found myself monitoring the morning stock reports with a peculiar sense of roadside accident fascination lately ("Ooh, look kids! Fiscal carnage!"). Well, for the first time ever, my characteristic financial insouciance has actually become something of a benefit. You can't lose, after all, what you don't have.

The global economy is, well, I believe the technical term they're bandying about LSE these days is 'screwed'. You know that as well as I. But do we really all need to roll around so relentlessly in the bleakness?
Take the stunning new Phillips de Pury sponsored, 70,000 square foot Saatchi gallery, which opened this week. Or Jalouse, the £4 million, Platino-pouring, celebrity-laden, thoroughly exclusive members' club which also just opened on Hanover Square. |

The world might be going tits up. But at least now I can admire cutting-edge international art, before sipping on a decadently expensive margarita amidst a bevy of glamorous socialites while I watch it go under.
And they say my priorities are skewed. Pah!
