Cheesey |
|
|
|
Maybe
it's just us, but have you noticed how many of the best
new pub openings are parading their cheese around as
stinkily as a rugby team with its boots off? |
|
A
little fromage goes a long way, so they say, and in
these dying embers of everyone's annus horribilis, the
hard yellow stuff is well and truly sniffing its way
into the limelight.
First off is The
Fellow, the superior new King's Cross pub from The
Lock Tavern people, whose passion for cheese is so strong
that they offer a special each day (Manchego! With damsons!).
Meanwhile, at the waterside Rotunda in King's
Place, you can gorge on a whole plate heaving with
obscure insect-sounding names like 'Ardrahan' and 'Gubeens'
for under a tenner.
|
|
But
top prize for "cheesiest" pub goes to posh new
boozer, The
Stag, which despite opening in the shiftiest
part of NW3, boasts a pong-tastic dozen different
types of fromage to mix 'n' match. And, even better,
you can scoff away in smelly peace in the nicest
heated garden in town.
So please, hold that boring cheddar. Mine's the
stinking bishop.
The Stag: 67 Fleet Road, London, NW3 2QU
King's Place : 90 York Way, London N1 9AG
