Pumpkins and silencers, baby. Pumpkins and silencers. The actual conversation that led to this as the ultimate reduction of this weekend was a little to long to recount. But think Bond + Hallowe'en and you get the gist. And we've even thrown in a few bits that are neither spooky or spy-ish. Just on the off chance that you're actually going to try to avoid both this weekend. (Yeah, good luck.)
This weekend's guide is brought to you in association with Jamie Lloyd's
acclaimed production of Piaf at the Vaudeville Theatre for a strictly
limited season. Elena Roger will perform just 100 times as the iconic singer Edith Piaf from the streets of Paris to worldwide fame, who continues to be remembered and revered for her exceptional voice and extraordinary life. Click here to win dinner and tickets to the show. |

Hellbent on Halloween
Remember the halcyon day of the 'Ween '88, when dressing up like a midget mass murderer and dancing madly to Thriller was admired with prizes? And apple bobbing was incomplete without faux-fanged reckless abandon? Well folks, relive the moment with the benefits of adulthood as US magazine, Filter, and Proud bring you booby-trapped tricks, treats, and 100 free sinful shots alongside live performances from Ghouldielocks (Goldilocks really), Envy and Other Sins, and DJ Bloody Awful Poetry. Oh, the nuanced punnery.

Da Scalzo Art Brasserie
As the Westfield hype ensues I thought I'd steer clear of da Bush til it's died down a bit and focus, instead, on somewhere a little more sedate.
Already adept at creating cosy, buzzy cafes where you could happily while away your hours, Enzo and Robert Scalzo, two of the brothers behind Patisserie Valerie have applied the same mediterranean know-how to their latest venture.
Taking residence in a former church hall Da Scalzo, which has a nicely laid-back vibe, has teamed up with Highgate Fine Art to combine modern European comfort food with proper grown-up art.
Start with a classic beef carpaccio, move onto grilled organic salmon, horseradish mayonnaise, new potatoes and buttered spinach and finish with panna cotta and wild berries. Or prop up the bar for an espresso (there's also a good breakfast menu) or a glass of something - there are a reassuring number of good wines on view, twelve of which you can sample by the glass.
And admire the art of course.
