Bare Facts

Seemingly, we're a country of some very f*cked-up individuals. The Observer included a fascinating magazine containing the results of their national 'Sex Uncovered' poll last weekend, and boy, was it a revealing read.

Apparently, 24% of us believe that gay sex should be illegal, 91% of men have never visited a prostitute (oh, wait. Define "visit". I shagged her, sure; but not "visited" - that's dirty) while 48% think it is possible to maintain a happy marriage/relationship without sex. Liars, the lot of us.

Sex has always been a touchy issue between the genders. We know we are supposed to be doing it - but this pathetic British insistence on being polite seems to constantly get in the way.

Case in point: a friend of mine was dating a guy she didn't particularly fancy. Her solution to assuage her guilt - splitting the bill, or in some cases, taking care of the whole tab. She was actually proud of such depraved behaviour.

"You do realise you are actually paying to NOT get laid?" I pointed out. She, obviously, never saw the guy again.

But it's not just her. I know women who have picked up the hotel tab for a minibreak, contributed to mortgages, spent years shelling out hundreds or thousands because they felt guilty about not fancying a guy.

And that, people, is truly whacked.
