Four months after they had us chomping at the bit, All Star Lanes - those purveyors of bourbon-powered pin-obliteration (or pin-powered bourbon-obliteration, depending on the hour) - have finally deigned to launch their bowling rocket out East.

And
with Green
and Red sneakily cracking open their revamped basement
bar last week, and Jonathan "Milk, Match, and East
Room" Downey sitting on his (still as-yet-unopened,
smaller-than-small, potentially members-style) bar space
somewhere on Brick Lane, you can't help but wonder if
there's anything the area doesn't have any more.
I mean, this is Brick Lane we're talking about, no?
That legendary stretch that a thousand drunken art/fashion
students, edgy post-punk bands, and hammered meedja
types call home? And now it's sweaty gig meets sterling
margaritas; 3am beigels colliding with potential members'
bars; spicy dhal crossing swords with luxury bowling
lanes.

Some
will say this is just one more nail in the ol'
'Ditch's coffin. Others that this is evolution
and we should all stop whining. But personally,
I'm happy. It's like a West London mall done East
London style - with a sprawling multiculturalism,
a wry sense of humour and one mean hangover in
the morning.
All
Star Lanes: The Old Truman Brewery, 87 Brick
Ln, E1
- opens to the public on Thursday November 13
