Well folks, whilst our Weekend Guides may have helped you through the last
12 months of your roller-coaster social life, now it's time to
let our poor, social animals have a little rest. But to see you
through the Christmas period (and how can you not be feeling the
festive bug yet?), we've gathered together one last pick of the
best markets, performances and distractions to keep you going.
Plus, if you're still out on a limb, there's also our huge
NYE Guide of what's going down in the Big Smoke, en route
to 2009.
This Christmas guide is brought to you in association with
Red Bull Cola. A cola from Red Bull? Yes, but with none of
that secret formula nonsense: this one is all natural, just like
the good old days. Should you fancy spicing things up, this refreshing
thirst quencher also makes a fantastic mixer. The citrus notes
are perfect with all rums, especially Morgan's Spiced Rum with
a squeeze of fresh lime, or splurge on Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum
for a signature drink in the making! Mixed or neat, and best served
chilled over ice, Red Bull Cola is the choice for those in the
know.

Bankside Winter Festival
Top up on last minute stocking fillers with a wonder down
to the river, where 50-odd stalls are out to virtually beat
the Christmas spirit into you if it kills them. Crafts,
sledge-tugging huskies, gingerbread, glühwein, guided riverside
walks... and if that doesn't do it for you, wander a little
further afield for festive-tinged gems like Borough Market
and Shakespeare's Globe. And if your Chrismas bell still
isn't ringing, why then I declare you a lost cause.

Canteen,
Baker Street
Where to refuel whilst Christmas shopping?
Always a tricky one.
If Marylebone Village is your chosen path to tread,
and there aren't many as festive and fashionable right
now, you may want some let up from the hordes once
you've pillaged KJ's Laundry, Matches and Daunt Books.
The good news is all-day diner Canteen has just opened
its third branch a hop, skip and jingle away on Baker
Street, and although we at UJ aren't huge fans of
chains, however hip, we find it hard to resist Canteen's
consistently good comfort food at even more comforting
prices.
Who can go wrong with smoked haddock, spinach and
mash or pork belly with baked apple, followed by gingerbread
with poached pears? Or a rhubarb bellini? Or one of
their infamous homemade jam doughnuts? Just to get
in training for 'the big day', you understand.
You can even continue to browse for gifts as the
new 'Bistro' table, designed by Very Good & Proper,
of which Canteen co-owner Patrick Clayton-Malone is
a part, is now available from TwentyTwentyOne.com.
Have a style-conscious, Great British Christmas.
