Take
two unrelenting carnivals and cream together with a large dollop
of Madonna (any era will do). Beat in 500 grams of East London
carnage, one upcoming dance extravaganza and a large shot of gothic
cabaret, and bake for fifteen minutes 'till warm and gooey. Sprinkle
with a flurry of art fairs and exhibitions, and garnish with the
newest, slickest bike shop in town. Et voila: London, this weekend.
Bon appetit!
This weekend's guide is brought to you in association with
Alessi, who prove that functional kitchenware doesn't have
to be boring. Variously bright and colourful or chic and sleek,
their innovative take on interior design has been charming customers
since 1921, and has us shouting Viva Italia!

Eonnagata
Bringing together dancer, Silvie Guillem, theatrical
wünderkind, Robert Lepage, choreographer, Russell
Maliphant, and fashion designer, Alexander McQueen,
Eonnagata is their first performative collaboration.
And it's based on the true story of Charles de
Beaumont - diplomat, writer and swordsman, who
was also the first spy to dress as a lady to enact
a disguise. How very dare he!

Grok
Consisting of an international web of artists,
creatives and designers, the Grok Institute
is out to wreak havoc on the traditional
exhibition experience. Curated by Andrew
McPhee and our own Jean-Robert Saintil,
this, their first interdisciplinary showcase
of events, art and music, focuses on cutting-edge
digital art, all served up with a distinctly
interactive bent.

Shop 14
Once a mere mode of transport, bikes are now also
the lifestyle accessory du jour. But rather than
waxing on about the trend, if you're into colour
coordinating your deep section rims with your
skinny jeans, and maybe even riding on them, then
this place is for you. Brand spanking new, the
store is stunning, their multicoloured bikes and
parts arranged like jewellery, and the chaps at
the helm are some of the friendliest on the scene.
Which always helps.

Daylesford
Organic - Notting Hill
When I grow up I want to do my weekly
shop and have leisurely weekend brunch at Daylesford.
It may seem a little extravagant to be thinking like
this in times like these, but I fully believe, as
I mentioned earlier this week, that a little of something
you really covet goes a long way.
Daylesford has just opened its second proper foodie
multiplex in London, karmically, on the site of the
old Fresh & Wild on Westbourne Grove, where you can
get all those inessential essentials like grapefruit
scented toilet cleaner and manuka honey dark chocolate
(actually, that is essential) and browse through other
organic fancies to your heart's content.
There are two dining-in options: the Raw Bar in the
basement - where you can not only get the uber-healthy
vegetable juices and salads you'd expect, but also
nibble on ceviche of wild sea bass with coriander
and citrus dressing or steak tartare with watercress
and quail's egg - and The Larder on the ground floor,
where heartier fare like leg of lamb with roast fennel
or surprisingly unhealthy-tasting (in a good way)
beetroot risotto is on offer.
It may all be a bit too-good-to-be-true, and will
no doubt become the all-day hangout for perfectly-groomed
OCD (organic compulsive disorder) sufferers...
But if you can't beat them, live in denial too, I
say.
