Lenin's Promise

Pavlov was on to something with more than dogs, you know. Take the two humble words "Gary's" and "bar."

Utter them consecutively to anyone from a certain (surprisingly large) sub-category of drinkers and behold the involuntary results: a rye smile, a nostalgic glaze, a wince of half-forgotten mischief and week-long recovery.

An East London icon, Gary Fairfull's bars have appeared in manifold forms and expressions - from the original "secret" dens of delightful iniquity to a brief dalliance with the restaurant industry. But regardless of their physical manifestation, the common denominator has always been one of friendly escapism; a spot where even if you don't arrive with friends, you're bound to leave with some (but not in an icky, Mayfair gentleman's club way, mind).

And now, for 12 short weeks, Gary's back.

Lenin's Promise, Mr. Fairfull's latest offering, is taking over the old Home Bar to create a three month pop-up of selective late night comradeship every weekend. Touting poetry, live music, DJs, cheap snacks and unsurprisingly homey environs, the best part is still that distinctly "Gary" vibe - like you've stumbled into the coolest house-party, full of fashion legends, bar monarchy, and plenty of wonderful, friendly people.

Lenin's Promise is every Friday and Saturday, 3pm-3am, and until 6am on the last weekend of the month.

Entry £5, or £20 membership for the full three months (or free for performers). Contact Gary directly for more details

Home Bar, 100-106 Leonard Street, EC2A 4RH
