ART

John 'Hoppy' Hopkins at Idea Generation
Idea Generation Gallery presents a new exhibition of paraphernalia and photographs by revolutionary John 'Hoppy' Hopkins, founder of legendary club UFO & underground newspaper The International Times. Encompassing mass rallies, squalid bedsits and freaks, tearaways and bohemians, his electrifying images act as a record of 1960s London struggling to break from austerity into an age of pop, protest and psychedelia.
Jun 19-Jul 19, Idea Generation Gallery, E2 7JB. Free.
HOPPY
FRIDAY

art Remi Rough
From 'street artist' (yes, yes: we're as bored with that term as you are, but bare with us because Remi's absolutely worth it) to recognized and respected 'artist proper' - hosting talks at the Tate and regularly crossing the boundaries between fashion, music and art - Remi Rough's first solo show here in London marks a journey for him, moving from sprayed walls to abstract interpretations of Homer's Odyssey… and not a stenciled rat in sight.

Time:
Wed-Sat 11am-5pm
Place:
Urban Angel, 41-43 Redchurch St, E2 7DJ
Cost:
Free

shopHermès Sample Sale
There are sample sales you stumble upon, have a root through, and leave with a scrap of something you'll never wear because hey, it was SUCH a bargain. Then there are sample sales you'd sell your mother's last kidney for. So get your scalpels out for French luxury brand Hermès. Whilst you're unlikely to find a Birkin in the scrum, we'd totally settle for a silk scarf or some safari-esque ready-to-wear. Mothers of the UK, run.

Time:
8:30am-7pm
Place:
The Music Rooms, 26 South Molton Lane, W1K 5LB
Cost:
Free Entry

OtherWhite Mischief
What's a weekend without a cheeky Spiegel? Whether you prefer it on the sly or are more open about it, with the summer in full force a spot of Spiegeling is practically de rigeur. Personally, I like to Spiegel later in the evening: have a few drinks and then it's straight to the Spiegeltent we go. What's that: don't have a clue what I'm waffling on about? Let White Mischief and their troupe of outré Victorian performers fill you in.

DJBoom Boom Club
Boom boom boom boom / on Sunday you won't be in PJ's in your room / you'll be partying at The Bathhouse, and calling in sick cuz you've been doing the double boom / boom boom boom boom. (And yes, that was meant to be a song, in case you hadn't guessed - not just a random string of unrelated noises). So everyone get on down, as that infamous night of rock 'n' roll distraction, legendarily banned from Camden, kicks off its new weekly residence tonight. Woo-ha!

EAT & DRINK

L'Etranger
This Franco-Japanese locale is one of those places that, since its arrival six and a half years ago, has seemed to get just about everything right.

Airy and elegant during the day, low lit and a little bit louche in the evening, the food is that now familiar blend of oriental and European flavours that London has yet to tire of, and the service is close to perfect. It's no wonder they've picked up a few awards along the way.

Paper-thin curls of crispy squid, Canadian Blue lobster tempura with wasabi mayonnaise, black cod with miso (don't worry, all the fish is sustainable) and a delectable caramellised aubergine are some of the dishes you can expect. And as puddings seem to be the one thing they're not quite so good at your already healthy bill will be that bit happier without.

Wine, however, is one of their strong points - Head Sommelier Matthew Mawtus has won endless accolades for his knowledge of terroirs and general suaveness - and not only is their Les Vins de L'Etranger wing now a wine boutique during the day but they've also just launched an online wine cellar.

So if you've forgotten to get the old man something for Father's Day get on the phone and book a table or order some booze - don't be a stranger.
