Weekend Guide
theOutnet.com

From Glastonbury to G'day UK (no comment, mate), clearly this is a weekend for getting out there. But we're assuming that if you're reading this (and we know you are) then you're already Glasto'd to the max and are staying at home sans wellie-loving, so have amassed a delectably varied mix to keep you busy in the Big Smoke instead.

From tapas to tennis, a tipple on the lawn to a dance beneath the waves, vintage boogying to a modern boy/girl mashup, we've got it covered for you over the next few days. So get to it - times a-wastin'…

SATURDAY

NightlifeRakehell's Revels
When Rakehell's Tuesday club night closed its doors in 2007, revellers let out a collective 'Ye gads! What the bloody hell is going on, by Jeeves?' ('Tis a '20s-'40s affair, after all). A compilation album, worldwide domination and several pale imitations later, and they're back for a one-off celebration of the golden age of glamour amidst the grandeur and unrestrained beauty of the recently-restored Victorian Bathhouse. Strictly the finest attire required, old chap.

Time:
10pm-4am.
Place:
The Bathhouse, 8 Bishopsgate Churchyard, EC2M 3TJ

If you thought bondage was limited to that thing you like your girlfriend to do on 'special' days, you've been seriously underselling what the Japanese consider to be quite the rope-bound art form. This festival, starting on Thursday, incorporates workshops, seminars, a Night of the Rope and intriguingly, a rope free-for-all. Sunday is a day of Chishiki and Tanoshii (knowledge and fun) so expect talks and presentations, Shiatsu, acupuncture, Hojojujitsu, and a Japanese Market Place. Time to stock up on some twine methinks…

EAT & DRINK

Serpentine Bar & Kitchen
It's not that I've got anything against picnics but creating the perfect, Blytonesque spread and finding the right idyllically leafy spot (not to mention crease-proof, summery - yet not too revealing - outfit) can sometimes feel a bit too much like hard work.

Which is why I'm all for the new breed of stylish cafes that are popping up in London's parks: Mr Peyton led the way with Inn The Park in St James's and now the Benugo boys, Ben and Hugo Warner, have given the cafe next to the Lido in Hyde Park their own stamp of old-fashioned English charm.

There are country lawn staples like ham hock and tarragon terrine with piccalilli as well as the slightly more adventurous whole roast mackerel with green beans, and organic 'Benugo Gelati' for pudding, all at pleasingly reasonable prices.

You can either eat inside the cafe - with it's central Fifties-style snug of armchairs and standard lamps - or take a table, deck chair or beanbag on the spacious deck outside and watch everyone messing about on the water.

Or, if you're dead set on finding that perfect patch of grass, you can always pick up a variety of picnicy bits to go or one of their speciality hampers - not forgetting lashings of ginger beer.
