Weekend Guide
Net-a-porter UK

Hot town, summer in the city... Not only are our necks indeed dirty and
gritty, but we are reaching temperatures to rival Bangkok. Who'da thunk it?

But we're not going to suggest any cooldowns this weekend folks - on the
contrary: fancy-dress Independence Day bowling beckons with USA Go Go, Circus moves to the big O2 arena, and Hyde Park hosts a musical extravaganza sure to get you sweating.

Hotter than a match head? Hell yes we are.

COMPETITION

Win bespoke artwork by Remi/ Rough
Leading street artist Rough's first solo show 'Lost colours and alibis' (inspired by tales from Homer's 'The Odyssey') marks the artist's move to a more abstract style. If you don't have a spare £4k or so for a piece of the action, Urban Angel & Urban Junkies are offering one lucky reader the chance to have Remi pop round to their city pad and create a one-off piece of art in their home.

Time to get the flip flops and cigars out ladies and gents, as the Cine Cuba Film Festival brings some Latin fever to the capital (as if we're not hot enough). 50 years after the Cuban Revolution, you can see the first openly gay film in Tomàs Gutiérrez Alea's 'Strawberry and Chocolate', work by Pavel Giroud, (the 'enfant terrible' of post-revolutionary cinema) and the latest releases from Havana: Personal Belongings, Omertà and The Horn of Plenty.

Conceptual jewellery at Structure & Function
Forget boring badges and peeling stickers - if you want to support a cause, a bit of bling is the answer. As well as running exhibitions, Structure & Function sells conceptual jewellery which carries a social conscience including breast cancer awareness, safe sex, consumerism and reinvention. UJ loves the industrial metals mixed with delicate silver pieces for a totally eye-catching, one-off piece. Black and white collection by Line Jorddal, from £200.

SATURDAY

NightlifeUSA Go Go
The Big Lebowski - too obvious. MJ - too controversial. A Coca Cola bottle - tricky (outfit wise). Oh, how we love a good costume party… especially when there's a prize involved. Your assignment is simple: dress up as your favorite American icon. So get creative. Whether that's with cucumbers, cardboard, hair implants or pantyhose. And while you're there, you can practice your bowling too. (You did get that it's 4th of July, right?)

Time:
8pm-late
Place:
All Star Lanes, 95 Brick Lane, E1 6QL
Cost:
Entrance is free but guest list only: kate@allstarlanes.co.uk

musicCircus
"If you're a big gay there's simply no excuse not to come." Nicely put Jodie. And to be fair, she's absolutely on the ball. After all, this is surely the party to end all parties during London Pride: 1) because it's in the 02 and Madonna is getting sticky and sweet there that night, 2) Siouxsie (yes, from the Banshees) is playing, 3) Kissy Sellout, Frankmusik and VV Brown are playing great tunes, and 4) because Jodie is awesome.

Time:
10pm-7am
Place:
Matter, The O2, Peninsula Square, SE10 ODY
Cost:
£12 adv.

SUNDAY

artBedford Square Summer Pavilion
Home to international architectural alumnae such as Zaha Hadid, Rem Koolhaas and Lord Rogers, the AA School is once again taking over Bedford Square to showcase the newest architectural talent to walk its hallowed (and beautifully designed, natch) walls. Driftwood is the first sculptural installation to be unveiled this weekend, and the fourth 'pavilion' the school has constructed. Expect to be reminded of flowing water, the lapping of waves, and probably just a leeeetle bit sea-sick - in an architecturally-inspired way, of course.

Time:
All day long
Place:
36 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3E
Cost:
Daily until 25th July.
