Weekend Guide
Win An Amazing Yoga break
On the off chance you don't blow all your cash at the new YMC store that finally opens this Friday here on Poland Street, and aren't going to set Field Day as the epicentre of your whole weekend, we've made sure to stock veritable swarm of distractions to keep you smiling.

There's a Chanel flash mob (yes another flash mob… but at least this one has a bit of a Coco vibe going on), an '80s cinematic showdown, and even a smattering of kaleidoscopic penii (or penile kaleidoscopes, depending). Sure we could've harped on about Field Day's inspiring line-up. But if that's what's really tinkling your bells then the chances are you've already got yourself a ticket. And besides, what's one more festival between friends?

musicMidnight Movies: 80’s Pink and Blue Party
The best time to celebrate the ‘80s is, as the Curzon have very wisely realised, at midnight. Because it is only in the dark, surrounded by likeminded folk that we can really let rip with the electro-pop, power ballads, poodle perms and schmaltzy teen-angst flicks. Take your pick between 1986 hits Pretty in Pink or Blue Velvet before heading to the afterparty for an exclusive music/video mash-up set from Straight To Video, late bar and unrelenting ‘80s karaoke. There is no shame like secret shame.

Time:
From 9:30pm
Place:
Curzon Soho, 99 Shaftesbury Avenue, W1D 5DY
Cost:
£12
Info:

TONIGHT
Chanel Flash Mob

Fashion lovers, Chanel-aholics and Coco-istas, hear hear! QueensOfVintage.com is hosting a Chanel flash mob in the vein of T-Mobile’s choreographed dance hit but with a stylish twist. So don your finest tweed suit, grab a quilted tote, and join the fashion pack at St Pancras Station. We hear Keiser Karl might even be doing a solo contemporary jazz/hip hop number. Ha.

6pm, St Pancras Station, N1C 4QP

SATURDAY

OtherHide & Seek Weekender
If you thought playground games and sandpit tussles were just for the kids, you'd be wrong. Made up of a network of artists, game-designers and players, Hide & Seek makes playing fun again with this weekend long festival of pervasive games. Figure out how to escape a Haunted House, plot to overthrow an ageing Emperor, take part in high-speed Pass the Parcel, or join soft toys on a secret city-wide mission.

Time:
11am-6pm
Place:
The Clore Ballroom, Royal Festival Hall, Belvedere Road, SE1 8XX
Cost:
Free

OtherSeductive Kaleidoscopes
If you feel strongly about the artwork surrounding your dinner and are of a sensitive disposition, you might think twice about ordering at Sketch this weekend. Courtesy of French artist, Cecile Emmanuelle Bora, comes the hypnotic kaleidoscope of multi-coloured penii (henceforth the official UJ plural of penis) projected across the super stylish dining room, playing on perversity, voyeurism and the representation of the male body in society. It’ll make you think twice about the asparagus, either way.

Time:
Now until mid-August
Place:
Sketch, 9 Conduit Street,
W1S 2XG
Cost:
Free to watch.

nightlifeWorld Premiere of Euripides’ Helen
Stolen wives, vengeful goddesses, tangled love affairs, murderous husbands, shipwrecks – what more could you possibly want for your Sunday night? Frank McGuinness’s spanking new take on Helen – Euripides’s wonderful, fairy tale-like romance – stars Paul McGann and Penny Downie, and looks set to be a right royal husband and wife farce on the world stage. Sort of like Eastenders on steroids. Ancient Greek ‘roids, admittedly.

Time:
6:30pm, runs until August 23rd
Place:
Jerwood Space, 171 Union Street, SE1 0LN
Cost:

£5-£33
