Weekend Guide
The Bombay Dusk Bar

Is it just us or has the heat made the city sleepy? Festival season is winding down, and whilst we would have recommended you hook up some last minute tix to Somerset House's outdoor screening of Raiders of the Lost Ark, obviously they're all already sold out. But now's no time to wilt!

So, assuming you don't fancy taking the blanket-and-binoculars approach to sneaking a peek, we've picked out a cracking range of things to keep you distracted instead, from shiny to tasty, out-of-town to out-of-this-world. But whatever you get up to, have a great one and we'll catch you on the other side.

This weekend's picks: Sign up to receive your daily fix automatically

• FRI Le Cirque Invisible • SAT Playing the Building • SUN Mahiki Beach

LAST CHANCE
The Big Chill

If you're fancying something a little more momentous for your weekend, then we say, screw it: grab a few compadres, book a car and hit the road, Jack, 'coz there are still some Big Chill tickets left and it's gonna be a great one. The weather looks to be lovely (according to the Beeb anyway), and with everyone from David Byrne to Basement Jaxx and Film4's cinema tent to a Monkey Shoulder tree-house on hand to keep you occupied, it's set to be a veritable feast of a weekend.

Thursday August 6th - Sunday 9th
Eastnor Castle Deer Park, Herefordshire

FRIDAY

artLe Cirque Invisible
What better way to kick off your weekend than with a little illusion? (After all, it is generally with false hope that we launch into our post-work evenings out.) But instead of disappointing romantic encounters and lacklustre drinks, Le Cirque Invisible promises proper magic and theatrical performances courtesy of Jean-Baptiste Thierree and Victoria Chaplin (daughter of Charlie). Expect breathing parasols, a human glass harmonica and a menagerie of rabbits, doves and ducks.

Time:
7:30pm
Place:
Southbank Centre, QEH, Belvedere Road, SE1 8XX
Cost:
£15-28

Take advantage of the BBQ and bar, rent a cushion and recline in this stunning circular stone amphitheatre right by the river, as Jason and his mates search out the Golden Fleece - your wallet remaining fleeced-free all the while.

Time:
F6pm
Place:
The Scoop, The Queen's Walk, SE1 2AA

SHOP
Swarovski Crystallised

Forget crystal-cut novelty animals and hokey jewellery - Swarovski are all grown up and touting some serious designer credentials at their Great Marlborough Street store, with collaborations including Christopher Kane, Jonathan Saunders and UJ favourite, Kenneth Jay Lane.

Grab this show-stopping Octopus brooch now. £180.

SATURDAY

artPlaying the Building
Imagine if the room you were in was a giant musical instrument. David Byrne (of the iconic Talking Heads) has created his vision of 'Victorian steam-punk technology', stringing up an old pump organ inside the 160-year-old Roundhouse with cables, making the entire place resonate. They're even taking the shutters off the windows of the domed roof, allowing the Victorian architecture to be seen in a new light. 'Sounds' like a treat for all of the senses. Ha.

Time:
10am
Place:
The Roundhouse, Chalk Farm Road, NW1 8EH
Cost:
£5

musicShock Shock
Finally you have an excuse/reason to break out those shimmering leggings you bought in a flash of bad taste and that purple leopard print catsuit you love so inexplicably. Taking a break from three-course dinners and burlesque, The Brickhouse is going 'out there' tonight. Launching its new 'unpretentious, friendly, fun' electropop monthly with an Alien Chic dress-code, an intergalactic playground interior and music from Frank (Not Frank), who knows. Maybe your knees'll start shaking and your fingers pop like a pinch on the neck of Mr. Spock.

Time:
9pm-3am
Place:
The Brickhouse, 152C Brick Lane, E1 6RU
Cost:
£8
Info:
