Silent We Shoutr

We cried when we heard about Gatwick Fashion Week. Then we died a little inside when the High Street joined in. And now Ms. Wintour herself is giving us tonight’s Fashion’s Night Out free-for-all. Is nothing sacred? How will Editors feel superior if we’re democratising CLOTHES, for crying out loud? We’ll need the rest of the weekend to check out naked art, eat ice-cream and ogle ladyboys. Not necessarily all together, because that’s kind of pervy. We’re not animals.

artRyan McGinley: Moonmilk
The first UK solo show of acclaimed American artist Ryan McGinley features 24 new colour photographs shot in caves across North America. The title of the show “Moonmilk” alludes to the crystalline deposits found on the walls of these spectacular underground caves; it was once believed that this substance was formed by light from celestial bodies passing through rock into darkened worlds below. That might explain the amount of naked bodies cavorting around down there then.

eat The Icecreamists
'Agents of Cool' The Icecreamists are bringing their war cry (God Save The Cream, of course) to Selfridges, with their own brand of rather unusual boutique ice creams, frozen yogurts, cryogenic cocktails and icequakes. Flavours include Obamarama, Never Mind The Hazlenuts, Espresso Yourself and Taking the Pistacchio - which all sound about as exciting as the Viagra-esque 'Sex Pistol'  - served with a shot of highly intoxicating La Fee Absinthe. Subterranean, Subversive - Sub-Zero.

Selfridges, 400 Oxford Street, W1A 1AB

LISTEN
Mr & Mrs Smith — In Bed With… Volume One

It's not everyday you get asked to get into bed with Lauren Laverne, or Urban Junkies’ very own Editor in Chief. But that’s what The Smiths have done, asking their favourite bon viveurs to reveal their bedtime musical secrets. The result is a surprising romp through a genre-hopping array of the classic and the contemporary, where Marc Almond, The dø, Neon Neon, Terry Callier and Television all turn out to be unpredictable but perfect bedfellows.

nightlifeSS Atlantica’s Maiden Voyage Party
Put aside the disaster of the Titanic, just for a moment. Because before the whole iceberg fiasco, there was the arms-outstretched joy of the ride, steamy sessions in a sidecar, and of course, below-deck dancing. Seeking to recreate the glamour and entertainment of the 1930's, the SS Atlantica's maiden voyage promises an evening faithfully following an authentic 30's ship's itinerary with Big Bands, shuffleboard, a casino and silent cinema, and a string quartet for those promenading on the upper deck.

Time:
8pm - 2am
Place:
Commodity Quay, St Katherine's Docks, E1W 1AZ
Cost:
£15

music Longplayer
The longest piece of music ever written, ‘Longplayer’, lasts 1,000 years – meaning that if it were to play its last notes today, it would have been started on a lute. Alternatively if we started today, it would probably end on Mars. Mind-addling stuff. So, making it easier on ourselves, and our children, and our children’s children, tonight (Longplayer’s first ever live performance) takes a 1,000 minute segment and puts a 26-strong orchestra, and a 20-metre wide synthesiser, to the test.

Time:
8:20pm — 1am
Place:
Roundhouse, Chalk Farm Road, NW1 8EH
Cost:
£15

Sat 19th September, 7.30pm. Barbican Hall, Silk Street, EC2Y 8DS. Tickets from £9

UJLady Boy Pageant 2009
A trip to Thailand wouldn’t be complete without a ping pong show, a mistimed ‘trip’ through a red curtain, and a little ladyboy flirtation. Bringing all of that fun to the stiff upper lips of Mayfair, the annual Ladyboy pageant kicks off again tonight, with swimwear, evening and ‘creative costume’ rounds. Who’s guessing Lady Gaga will be a major muse – or, according to recent tabloid blasts – she might be more suited to entering herself as a contestant. Miaow.

Time:
6pm - late
Place:
Mango Tree, 46 Grosvenor Place, SW1X 7EQ
Cost:
£18 on the door, £15 in advance

The Bombay Sapphire Fashionista cocktail

A stylish combination of Bombay Sapphire gin,
Chambord raspberry liqueur and fresh lemon juice topped with prosecco fit for all fashionistas.

The incorporation of Chambord draws out the spicy notes in Bombay Sapphire - the cubeb berries and grains of paradise botanicals - whilst the inclusion of prosecco lengthens the cocktail and creates some fizz.

Available exclusively at the Bombay Sapphire Dusk Bar from 18th September - 27th September.

Bombay Sapphire Dusk Bar, River Terrace, Somerset House, Strand, WC2R 1LA

If you want to be part of the buzz of London Fashion Week, the Bombay Sapphire Dusk Bar offers you the opportunity to soak up the September sun and be seen amongst London’s most fashionable crowd whilst enjoying this exclusive cocktail.
