If there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that a lunchtime dash through the high street for throwaway fashion just isn’t doing it for us anymore. We want well–cut quality and timeless elegance, with enough flair to get us through a good few seasons. And we’re partial to a secret, hard–to–get find too.
Clemens en August, like a rock tour, move from city to city selling their fantastic wares out of premium artsy spaces – think Hauser & Wirth, Spruth Magers, the ICA — and instead of hanging around during Fashion Week, you’re more likely to find them cosying up with the best of the art world, often collaborating with artists on special ‘artist’s edition’ collections.
This year, Clemens en August are popping up in a superb central location right next to the Frieze Art Fair (in the space that used to be CVO Firevalut– we loved), to showcase their mens and womens A/W collections for three days only.
Think early Helmut Lang or Jil Sander – simple, timeless, and cut so well you’ll need to pour yourself into the pieces to believe it. Plus, these showrooms are the only places you can get your hands on them, and the only places where you can get hold of an exclusive online log–in code to be able to buy online. And did we mention – without the cost of keeping stocked–up retail spaces all year long, garments don’t suffer the in–store mark–up — meaning you save money too.
Standout collection highlights include classic pea coats, razor sharp suits (as worn by many an understated A–lister) and blazers, jersey shirts and the softest cashmere. Click here for UJ’s favourite pieces.
