In the same vein, the restaurant scene can be murder come the festive season – especially if you’re after something a little different. This year’s crop of experiential pop-ups have already unveiled themselves, and include a beautiful rooftop alpine chalet at The East Room, called The Clubhouse Shoreditch, serving Eristoffee Vodka, cheese fondue, and tartiflette (potatoes, onions, bacon and Reblochon cheese, mmmm), beside a roaring fire, and a restaurant-cum-shop courtesy of UJ’s own Rosie Lovell, who’ll be providing warm, simple dishes and cutely categorised gift options.
Elsewhere the bohemoth of bling – Sketch – will be dazzling up The Royal Academy of Arts (a space inhabited by Bistrotheque’s Flash last year) with a 70-seater patisserie serving Pierre Gagnaire menus. There’ll be an outdoor area (brrr - rugs and hot water bottles will be provided), an oyster bar and a crêperie, whilst the coinciding art exhibition - Earth: Art of a Changing World, has informed the locally sourced ingredients and recycled furniture.
So, keep a wary eye on reservation openings, and put some mince pies by the fireplace – because nobody wants tears come morning.
