BIDDING WAR
The hottest auctions right now.

eBay’s dubious roster of auctions has included the right to name a woman’s baby (won by Golden Palace casino who duly named the child: Golden Palace), a month’s worth of friendship (including phone calls, texts and two emails per week), and a ghost in a jar. All bargains for sure.

But for me, it’s always been a graveyard for my wardrobe, with tombstones headed Chloe and Stella. My bereavement fund has been funnelled back into Designer Auction ’s innovative bidding system, in an attempt to move on with Chanel and Mac. Kind of like playing Russian Roulette with cash, you’ve got to know when to fire - but handbags have been going for under a tenner.

Perhaps the trick is to bid on experiences and money-can’t buy ins. Like an all–expenses paid NYE party with Pinchito and up to 100 of your mates. And then there’s the chance to do coffee runs and paper clippings in an airless cupboard. Otherwise known as work experience. Yes, in the name of charity big businesses are auctioning off placements with two weeks with the Harry Potter film whizzes (or wizards) fetching £3500, and Harvey Nichols raking in £2500. Still up for grabs before closing tomorrow are spots with property tycoon Nick Leslau, Spectator magazine, and rather mysteriously ‘the trading floor of a major bank’.

Wonder if they’re throwing in bonuses. I could use another bag…

The Culturist – December

The amber streetlights are aglow outside, children are laughing, wallets are emptying, and that radiance of tipsy cheer is upon us. So you know what that means:1) winter is really here, with the Festive Season hot on its heels, and 2) nothing will make you happier than a spot of cultural distraction. Especially when the month holds everything from a Colette pop-up to cross-dressed dinner, oversized sculpture to prostitutes in the National Gallery (see, that got your attention) and of course a veritable swathe of wintry delights to keep you both warm and cheery in equal measure.
