Have flash sales (existing for a pre-determined period and aggravating the ‘must-have-it-now’ instinct in impulse buyers) had their ‘time’? In the States, Gilt Groupe are going strong, with Alexander Wang eschewing his biannual physical sale in favour of their online services, and Gilt Noir offering an über exclusive club to their top 1% of users, allowing them 15 minutes of browsing before anyone else. Gwyneth Paltrow’s a member. Goopalicious. Gilt Fuse, however (for less expensive brands) is a bit of a bust.
Back in the UK The Outnet, who never had a hard-to-access members policy, continue with their ‘Going Going Gone’ ticking clock sales and extra-discounted pop-ups. And now Tablet Hotels have jumped on the bandwagon, offering members (and their friends) holiday discounts every Tuesday, with Tablet Plus members getting a Monday preview.
So we’re hopeful for the newest kid on the block Achica, which specialises in luxury interiors, accessories and lifestyle brands with sales kicking off every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Which means our homes will soon look as good as our designer bikini-clad butts on discounted holiday. Flash-in-the-pan or gone-in-a-flash? Join up now before the private club is full and they revert to invitation only. Or open their all-encompassing arms, Cocosa style - who knows.
