This weekend we have the battle of Mother’s Day versus St Patricks’, as potato–pickers take on pram–pushers in a scuffle for Sunday supremacy. We’re thinking the only winners in this scenario are Irish mammys, who are surely in for a whale of a flower–delivery, pint guzzling weekend. But even if you unhappily fall under neither category, we’ve got a suitably international–sounding line up for you, with Eurotrash and Superfreq, une Pique Nique of sorts, and some foreign (and cheap) art for the culturally inclined.

TONIGHT
The White House Hits Ten
No, it’s not the Obama residence (though we’re sure Michelle would pull out one hell of a club-land outfit), and yes – it’s in Clapham – but The White House is celebrating its tenth year in the clubbing business with a stellar line–up kicking off tonight with Maxi Jazz from Faithless. Tomorrow sees Basement Jaxx take a turn on the decks, before Saturday’s performance by The Freemasons. Time to trek out to the ‘burbs for a serious house party, we think.
£5-£20, The White House, 65 Clapham Park Road, SW4 7EH. |

Markus Lupfer X Steiff
In Germany, Steiff teddies are the crème de la crème of the stuffed toy world, known as ‘Knopf im Ohr’, or ‘button eared’ thanks to the signature yellow button tags attached to every animal’s ear. So how to make the already pretty special into something super spectacular? Why, by encrusting the critters with rhinestones, gems and buttons of course, courtesy of designer Markus Lupfer. Check out the penguin, puma, and our favourite (and Kylie Minogue’s, who was inspecting them as we were milling around Harvey Nichols) – the keychain mouse.
£160, Harvey Nichols Fourth Floor.

THE CLOSING PARTY
Red Bull Music Academy Says Adieu
They came, we saw, they’re closing – but it ain’t over until someone sings, and tonight it could be the melodious tunes from any of the Academy Allstars on the second floor that wraps it up. A collaboration with Vice Magazine, expect to see 2MANYDJS, The XX and Friendly Fires in the main room, mixing up the biggest anthems and twisted disco choons from the past five weeks. Parting is such sweet sorrow. And you’ll be even sorrier if you don’t turn up early enough for door tickets – ’cos that’s all that’s left.
9pm-5am, Hearn Street Carpark, 7-11 Hearn Street, EC2 3LS. £15 |
