Summer shouldn’t be spent hushed up indoors watching sweaty men butch it out over a ball and fake foot–hopping injuries in the South African sun folks! It should be spent outside, in the fresh air under a blue blue sky – and long may it last! So hang out those Union Jack flags and be proud – for we have a Pleasure Garden and an Urban Beach in the great outdoors, some very dirty geriatrics for those with darker inclinations, a Cuban Brothers fiesta with footie on the side, and a brand new app from the clever folks at champagne house Veuve Clicquot which’ll make sorting out your Summer events even easier right from your pocket.

Portraits
Following on from his nudey Cheeky exhibit and South African inspired Rankinjozi, the world-renowned photog is back with a series of classic portraits exhibiting at his very own gallery, Annroy. Featuring models, music moguls, movie makers and even ministers including the likes of Gordon Brown (like we need to see his face again), Kylie Minogue, Helen Mirren, Madonna and U2, it’s a great chance to see the faces that have punctuated the last twenty years of popular culture. |

VEUVE CLICQUOT
This Season’s Must-Have App-cessory
Whilst we at UJ do our damndest to keep you lot entertained with fun events listings, we restrict ourselves to the odd email inbox drop (don’t we just light up your day?). But if you want to keep on top of the Summer’s best events from your pocket, why not download Veuve Clicquot’s new app, ‘The Season’? Not just a list of happenings, it also lets you manage and share your burgeoning social calendar, and even locates the nearest bar so a chilled glass of bubbly is never far away, whilst guests at the Veuve Clicquot Gold Cup Final can use it as a champagne delivery Concierge Service. Cheers to that.

SHOP
Basso & Brooke Furniture
Here at UJ we’re big fans of Basso & Brooke’s fantastic digital prints. And what’s so far been restricted to the catwalk is now set to make your home as colourful as your closet, with a new collection of interiors in association with Turning Leaf wines. Popping up at The Shop at Bluebird, check out the leafy–inspired creations and if you drop by on a Thursday or Friday, enjoy a glass of free vino from the in–house bar.

This week’s hottest foodie destination
The Lonsdale
Revived Notting Hill nightspot
48 Lonsdale Road, W11 2DE – 020 7727 4080 www.thelonsdale.co.uk
Location
When it first opened this louche, cavernous West London hangout, tucked behind Westbourne Grove, became best known for its deliciously lethal cocktails, mixed by Henry Besant, and the odd star-studded lock-in.
Vibe
Now in the capable hands of Ben Entwistle and Tim Gardner (formerly of The Wellington Club and The Crazy Bear Hotel), with ex-Ivy Club Jasmine Walters looking after things front of house, we can hopefully expect some elegantly decadent nights to come, with service a notch above the norm.
Flavours
The food can now be taken a lot more seriously as the boys have managed to nab former Hawksmoor chef Jason Wallace and have posh Mayfair butcher Allen’s supplying the beef, so the Cairngorm-reared rib-eye and Longhorn burger should be something to write home about. And cocktails are certainly not to be overlooked with former Momo’s barman Alex Palumbo in charge who has rediscovered some forgotten classics like the Drake’s Mojito that was apparently first concocted in Havana in 1586.
Décor
A little bit Seventies Bond Boudoir, with a hint of Thunderbirds, the design is courtesy of DTwo (who also kitted out Milk & Honey and Callooh Callay), with low mock-croc banquettes in the restaurant and glam lighting and slick lines in the bar.
Upshot
With a promising team now in charge, and a very decent standard of steak and cocktails on offer, this revamped local, that has been a bit hit and miss in recent years, finally seems to have everything going for it.
