Luckily not – and all of you ladies heading out to the Jacques Townhouse to start your weekends in style better thank your Fairy Godmothers – whilst the rest of us spend the weekend barbequing on rooftops and rum shacks, getting voyeuristic at the cinema, munching free sushi and getting inked. Jacques Townhouse Launch Soirée Photos

UJ popped along to the launch of the Jacques Townhouse in beautiful Fitzroy Square for an evening of fun–filled fantasy, where we were met by suited bellboys and directed by a top–hatted concierge to various magical rooms inside the urban orchard designed by 40 Winks’ David Carter. Cupcakes and fluffy trees adorned the Table of Temptations whilst tarot did the rounds, cushions for lounging were found in the Forest of Dreams, and girls were made over by Benefit with giant fluttering eyelashes and vintage from the dressing up box before a secret room was unveiled with DJ decks manned by Jameela Jamil, Sophie Ellis–Bextor and her husband Richard Jones, and Jodie Harsh and Henry Holland sipping cider in the sidelines. If you’re lucky enough to have an invite, enjoy! If not, check out our photos to see how it all went down.

icon Blue Velvet
The creators of Secret Cinema are back with another immersive, live experience, celebrating rebel actor Dennis Hopper (who died of cancer this year) with a screening of cult flick Blue Velvet. Centred around a murder mystery in suburban America, a load of sadomasochistic bedroom activity and a healthy dose of voyeurism, we’re hoping their interpretation isn’t too literal. Come dressed as your favourite Hopper character (Apocalypse Now or Easy Rider?) or leading lady, and bring a flower.

Time: 7:30pm
Place: The Troxy, 490 Commercial Road, E1 0HX
Cost: £15

UJPop-Up Tattoo Parlour
Ok, so we’re not suggesting you seriously get inked up on a Sunday. Though sticking tequila and tats in the same location might be asking for trouble. But why not pop along to the Hornitos Tequila bar for a complimentary cocktail and very temporary tattoo from a proper body artist – none of that 90’s stick on rubbish. The Graffiti KiNGS will on hand with spray paint should you feel like taking your new adornment to the walls, and you can check out the winning entries by talented tattoo artists in the limited edition Hornitos bottle design competition.

Time: 12pm-6pm
Place: Dray Walk Gallery, off Brick Lane, E1 6QL
Cost: Free

This week’s hottest foodie destination

Trullo
New Italian trattoria brings River Cafe food to thrifty Islingtonians

300–302 St Paul’s Road, N1 2LH - 020 7226 2733
www.trullorestaurant.com

Location
In a far from glam spot (but don’t let that put you off), on the site of the former Gill Wing Cafe, just off Highbury Corner.

Vibe
Trulli are the cylindrical shepherds’ huts you find in Puglia in the South of Italy, which kind of sums up what the owners of this newcomer are aiming for in terms of good, old–fashioned, earthy simplicity. Jordan Frieda (son of Lulu and hairdresser John), formerly front of house at the River Cafe, and Tim Siadatan (one of Jamie’s original Fifteen chefs who has since worked at St John and Moro), who heads up the kitchen, certainly have the right pedigree to make this kind of place work.

Flavours
Rustic, seasonal and homemade aren’t just words bandied around because they sound good here. The menu is kept short and sweet, the pasta – tagliarini with brown shrimps, zucchini and chili, for example – is freshly made and the proper charcoal grill – on which wild sea trout is currently sizzled and served with lentils, pea shoots and aioli – is always smouldering. But the most delicious bit is that dishes start from around £4 and the wine menu makes you feel tipsy just seeing how moderate their mark–up is (just £10 for each bottle)…

Décor
Smart navy blue outside with an Italian trattoria–inspired interior, right down to the paper tablecloths, tumblers for wine and net curtains that run along the lower windows. There’s even the ubiquitous bowl of Sicilian lemons.

Upshot
I love where they’re going with the affordable, rustic Italian food in unpretentious surroundings idea; they use the same olive oil the River Cafe use but drizzle it selectively rather than fry everything in it. Cooking with a conscience – how very modern.
