Cox Cookies & Cake Opens

Some say it’s better than sex.
Christina Aguilera has likened her ahem, ‘Woo Hoo’ to it. Marie Antoinette probably rolled around in it before parcelling it out to the peasants. Yes – it’s cake.

So it’s kind of apt that London’s latest bakery is appearing in a derelict sex shop on Soho’s Brewer Street. What’s less apt is that the man behind Cox’s Cookies & Cake is none other than Patrick Cox, better known for his vertiginous heels favoured by the fashion set than his skills with a piping bag. Luckily he’s hooked up with Cake Boy’s celebrity patissier Eric Lanlard to create this corner shop of illicit icing, complete with XXX-style neon strip lighting and glossy black flooring.

But the home-baked goodies on offer promise to be much more stylish than suggestive, with the likes of Patrick’s Mummy Maureen’s Nanimo Bars made with coconut, chocolate biscuit and vanilla butter cream behind the counter, as well as a range of cupcakes decorated with everything from skulls to Marilyn Monroe cut-outs.

And with late-night openings to rival nearby gelato-joint Gelupo, it only remains to be seen how many of the site’s old customers can be satisfied with a cookie or two in place of their usual ‘treat’. Oh crumbs…

Info
Open from 1st September, Daily: 11am-11pm. 13 Brewer Street, W1F 0RH.

UJ Spot 1 THE CULTURIST: SEPTEMBER
