New club, XOYO launches in Old Street

The world is feeling pretty serious at the moment. Papal visits, natural disasters, oil spills… Combine this with our nostalgia for the days when you didn’t have to cab it to the a*se end of Dalston-on-Sea to find a decent party and Old Street’s new club, XOYO, is looking pretty tasty.

There’s plenty to love about the venue: a slew of big names are behind it (Eat Your Own Ears’ Tom Baker, Field Day’s Marcus Weedon, Bugged Out’s Johnno Burgess). It’s been something crazy like 11 years in development. There’s an impressive 800-person capacity split between two floors, promising a balance between intimate gig and heaving all-nighter depending on the set-up. And then there’s the delightfully memorable/mysterious name (Is that XOYO pronounced “Sho-Yo” like a frozen yoghurt chain? Or “Ex-Oh-Why-Oh” like some chromosomal anomaly?).

But what really has our dancing-hearts a-racing is the location. A cracking night’s partying that’s neither in coin-over-quality Mayfair nor so far East that a cab home costs twice as much as the whole night out? That’s a W-I-N however you want to spell it. Or pronounce it for that matter.
