Goldilocks

Find a bed that’s just right.

Sometimes choosing a hotel can leave us feeling as fussy as Goldilocks – where’s the option that’s ‘just right’?  With the upcoming Royal nuptials and Olympics around the corner, new launches range from the Daddy Bear big guns (W, Four Seasons Park Lane and The Corinthia) to the Baby Bear boutiques (45 Park Lane and erm, St John... sooner rather than later, we hope). But if you don’t want to shell out for a showpiece or delve into your pocket for designer digs, we’re liking the new ‘feels like home’ options.

Where ‘B&B’ may have been a dirty word reeking of fried breakfasts before, it’s now going chic courtesy of Annette Russell (formerly of Vice and Sleazenation) and her five bedroom hideaway. Luxury linens, antique furniture, exposed brickwork and wooden floors, a communal living room with arty books, chesterfields and free wi-fi, and a garden with a pet whippet in tow are all in a Victorian house within spitting distance of Shoreditch.

Meanwhile, if you fancy going up a price level up but keeping the occupants down, how about the Zetter’s Townhouse? Set in a Georgian building just across the cobbled square from the original hotel, with only 11 rooms and two suites it’s more of a private residence. Described as the home of Zetter’s eccentric 18th century Aunt, it promises to be filled with curiosities garnered from ‘her’ travels in amongst the games room, private dining rooms, cocktail bar and lounge all designed by Russell Sage.

Now that’s sorted, we need to move onto the next pressing fairytale houseguest issue – porridge.

Info
Russell’s of Clapton is open now, with rates from £65-£95. Chatsworth Road, E5 0LA
The Zetter Townhouse opens in March 2011.
