Dust off your fancy pants and buy cobble-challenging heels kids, it’s that time of year again. As Fashion Week hits the city, you have two options; get involved (dress like it’s fright night and hope to get street snapped) or avoid like the plague (so Somerset House is out). We have decided to go Gaga and traverse town in an egg in order to check out sexy sketches, Playboy bunnies, birthday parties and take on Rihanna in a battle to the diva death. What, we were born this way. Or hatched this way, anyway. |

TODAY
M.A.C Wonder Woman
Holy makeup disaster Batman! Ok, so whilst tidemarks and smudged eyeliner are hardly a job for the caped crusader, M.A.C have seen fit to invoke the power of Wonder Woman in a series of new super-sized products inspired by the comic heroine. If you want to get your hands on the collection first (which includes a natty line in primary-coloured cosmetics bags and mirrors too), Selfridges is selling them in store and online now. The leotard you’ll have to find elsewhere.

Bleach at Topshop
With the now-legendary WAH nails claiming it as their birthplace and the promised arrival of a brand new boutique hotel, ‘Avo’, we can’t help but think anything coming out of Dalston is good right now. And that includes Bleach, the awesome hair dip-dying and all round fun colour gurus who’ll gradient your do in tints from ‘Blue Lagoon’ to ‘Berocca Rise’. They’ll be popping up in Topshop Oxford Circus from tomorrow for the duration of Fashion Week with hair stencilling and full colour services on offer for him and her in their ‘Flash-FASH’ store.
From £20.

HONG KONG SPECIAL SPONSORED LISTING
Arts
With the city’s cool melding of East meets West and a wealth of history to its name, Hong Kong is no slouch when it comes to arts & culture. 2011 sees the 39th annual Arts Festival serve up a month of music, dance, opera and drama including classic productions of Tristan Und Isolde and performances by renowned Cantonese artists. If cinema is more your thing, check out the Film Festival in March featuring hundreds of international titles. For a taste of the traditional, there are a myriad of Chinese festivals going on throughout the year, from lantern and dragonboat festivals to the upcoming Chinese New Year. What better way to welcome in the Year of the Rabbit than with a well-earned trip abroad?

CHECK IT OUT
Nowness
We heart Nowness.com for its daily dose of inspirational visuals and videos – hardly surprising as it’s part of the LVMH stable (anyone else downloaded the new Louis Vuitton ‘amble’ app to record their travel diaries?). Which is why we’ll be hotfooting it to the St Martins Lane Hotel to check out their highlight reel, including a video wall screenings short films featured on the site and gallery-style iPad ‘stations’ to let you browse live content in your own time.
45 St Martins Lane, WC2N 4HX. Daily 10am-6pm.

INTERNATIONAL
Madeira Carnival
Here at UJ we’re all feeling a little South American flavour for our summer holidays. But if you can’t wait that long (or the thought of a trans-Atlantic flight over is giving you the bends), this mini explosion of neon mardi gras madness might make a good alternate. Three and a half hours from London (try TAP for flights from £52 one way), the sub-tropical street party on the streets of Funchal is reminiscent of Rio, with parades, costumes, live music and fireworks marking the beginning of Lent. And you’ll have plenty of ideas on what to give up after a weekend away here.
March 4th-8th.

LFW SPECIAL
Eat The Designers
Fashion Week may all seem like a clothes-horse hoopla, but for anyone looking to get involved and not ban the carbs, we have the icing-covered answer. AnOther magazine is celebrating a decade in the business and has commissioned ten designers to create birthday cakes in association with chefs like Mark Hix and Peggy Porschen. All are on display in Selfridges, from multi-tiers at Givenchy to pearl-laden designs by Lanvin. We’re looking forward to seeing Gareth Pugh’s interpretation and figuring out who Bompas & Parr have hooked up with. You can’t get a slice, but the store’s gourmet space has plenty of sweet treats just around the corner to satisfy any cravings.

HEADS UP
The Collection for London Fashion Week: Volume II
Your front-seat invite got lost in the post (along with your Valentine, right?) and you were just too busy for the after party circuit this Fashion Week – but you can still get a taste of the runway with this new album. Only really in its infancy, this new collaboration sees different designers put together their dream playlist with Matthew Williamson taking the Volume II reigns. Like his Ibiza-bright collections, the track list is just as shiny and electro-poppy featuring Empire of the Sun, Roisin Murphy and Santigold.
Released 28th February.
