Apparently today is our ‘most active day of the year’, statistically the day Brits are feeling most energetic and likely to hit the gym (the same survey also claims 1 in every 10 males has had to change gyms to avoid a disastrous date with a fellow gym goer...). We write this from under a mound of Creme Egg wrappers. So hop to it, you can win personal training sessions this weekend if you need a little push (and want to fit in these knickers), or sack it all in and go crazy with the Polish, hit the gutter and sod the diet with a little Chinatown-facing snackage. Come, join the dark side. We’re the ones who can’t lace our trainers. |

THE COLLECTION – NEW PODCAST
London Fashion Week 2011 Mix
As Fashion Week leaves town and hits Milan, Urban Junkies x The Collection have concocted a mix to take in the tracks loved and heard across the ‘On’ and ‘Off’ schedule of events. The mood for Fall/Winter 2011 has been classical, slightly epic, and hard edged in places – and we’re not just talking clothes. Think punk, new wave and not surprisingly a bit of dubstep, so we’re starting with relative newcomer Joash, then moving into Chilly Gonzales, Crystal Fighters and a ubiquitous Daft Punk disco cover, followed by The Collection DJs [Joshyouare, Blondeambition, Disastronaut] mashup party mixes before finally ending on a fab cover of Finally by Cherry Ghost.

HEAD’S UP
Baby Bathhouse
If you like the secret underground debauchery happening at The Bathhouse out East but don’t always fancy the trek to Liverpool Street, you’ll be pleased to hear the gilded birdcage is flying the coop and opening up a mini version in Stoke Newington. With cabaret hot news thanks to The Box’s emergence on the city scene, the performance art and cocktails here should be spot on – plus, during the day the venue will serve lunch out of a cafe in the garden terrace. The Baby’s due in March so get those shower RSVPs ready.

This week’s hottest foodie destination
Fox & Grapes
Popular Wimbeldon boozer gets new direction
9 Camp Road, SW19 4UN.
020 8619 1300 foxandgrapeswimbledon.co.uk
Location
It may not be the hippest address but the Fox & Grapes on the edge of Wimbledon Common has long been popular amongst dog-walkers and womble-lovers (sorry, couldn’t resist) and has just acquired a new landlord which has got tongues wagging and curtains twitching.
Vibe
Two Michelin-starred chef Claude Bosi (of Hibiscus fame) has installed Patrick Leano in the kitchen and his brother Cedric managing the restaurant to make sure things run smoothly. So let’s just say the clientele has shifted rather dramatically from old blokes in wellies towards more serious foodie types keen to try this new destination hotspot.
Flavours
The menu leans firmly towards nostalgia, with a few twists. Prawn cocktail and Patrick’s secret recipe burger went down a treat with my picky other half (even without the foie gras which is known to cosy up to the beef on occasion); while snail lasagna with its garlicky, creamy, bacony sauce had me wanting to lick the plate but left me a bit defeated when it came to my lamb shoulder main course – and meant that treacle and pecan tart was definitely a no-go.
Décor
Nothing massively out of the ordinary in this department (what is it with gastropubs and that sage green colour?). Things have been kept fresh and simple with a few minimal, retro touches like Beatles cushions and a splash of ironic floral print.
Upshot
Chefs have had varying success opening pubs over the years. Heston has been resoundingly successful, Gordon not so much, Marco... you’re never quite sure.
Bosi is the latest to tread this territory (or rather retread it, he also owned The Bell in Yarpole) and the announcement that rock star chef Rene Redzepi will take to the stove with him at Hibiscus in April can only make this rural retreat even more attractive.
