The Big Day
Camden’s new gallery/store Guts For Garters leads the creative Royal Wedding wagon
It’s hard not to be a little cynical about the whole Royal Wedding thing – after all, if Americans are hailing Miss Middleton as their favourite new style icon, you have to worry. But then the weekend’s rumour of a Sarah Burton -designed wedding dress massively reignited our excitement. What could possibly be more modern fairytale than tying the knot to a bona fide prince at Westminster Abbey wearing a bespoke McQueen gown?
|
|
(Sure Jonathan Akeroyd swiftly shot down the wedding dress commission. But then he would wouldn’t he? Killjoy.) So in the face of our new found Royalist fervour and the ever-growing wall of Kate-and-Wills Day tripe/memorabilia, our ears were piqued recently by Guts for Garters – an intriguing new art gallery-cum-store which opens this week in Camden.
Not content with helping North London regain some of its creative cred with a curated installation interpretation of design retail, Guts for Garters is turning to Rule Britannia for the first of its rotating themes (is this the ‘new pop-up’ perhaps?). Every six weeks the whole space will transform stocking everything from interior design to fashion, and a designer list from Vivienne Westwood to vintage Victoriana, Norman Hartnell to the finest of the RCA’s grads.
So what will they make of the Royal Wedding? Whatever happens we’re sure it’ll make a change to the ubiquitous knitted gloves and new royal-branded sick bags, the infamous royal-inspired condoms and of course everyone’s favourite cyni-cool plate set …
INFO Guts for Garters launches March 10 205 Royal College Street, NW1 0SG

WMC MIX - Bang it Out!
|
WMC March 8-12
Ooooh there’s already been controversy surrounding this year’s Miami Winter Music Conference. Usually held during the same week as sister event Ultra Music Festival (making it oh so much easier for industry peeps and partiers to descend on the city in one swift shot), this year the two have split their dates. So which one should you choose? At UJ it was a no brainer, as for us the action is more about the off-schedule events, the private pool parties with mates, warm sunshine, sea swimming, SoBe culture and a break from the Big Smoke more than the conference or Ultra…And as we needed a break now - we’ll be at the WMC! Base camp at the Delano, taking in snippets of Soho Beach House, and chowing down a few meals at Nobu, Zuma, Hakkasan, Cecconi’s et al. If you're not going check out our WMC inspired mix, and hey - it’s not too late to book flights…see you at the pool!
