So far we have collectively consumed six coffee frappuccinos, broken into the corner shop’s Calippo ice-cream stash, and gotten mildly irritated that we weren’t the only smart-a*se media folk to hit Golden Square come lunchtime. Yes, like all great Brits we have embraced the sunshine with gusto, stuck our faces squarely in the sun and come back with one already sun-burnt member of the team. We’ve checked the old iPhone weather forecast and it looks set to stay hot, so this weekend get out there and enjoy. There’s theatre, art and music aplenty, a misleading podcast from yours truly (what, so we weren’t exactly prepared), and munchable suggestions should you ever leave the park. We accept no responsibility for soaked subscribers should the Met Office have made a mistake...

TONIGHT
R.S.V.P.H.R.H
We haven’t (surprisingly) received one ourselves but we’re guessing the Royal wedding invite is a plush gold embossed affair. For those of you also in the dark, the R.S.V.P.H.R.H. exhibition’s aim is to re-imagine the invite in ways which would trouble the royal family on a whole host of levels. Artists, designers, photographers and cake-makers all contribute to cast the Royal pair in characters ranging from foxes, superheroes and corgis. One must attend.
From 6:30pm. The Rag Factory, 16 Heneage Street, E1 5LJ. |

SHOP
Karl Lagerfeld x Diet Coke
It’s no secret that we have a slight addiction to DC in the UJ office, and like nothing more than a little bottle collectible. Our Selfridges anniversary edition is still in its fully-wrapped pantone yellow glory next to Uncle Karl’s first foray with the brand. This year Lagerfeld is back with his second collaboration launching this week featuring three new and exclusive designs in fashion-friendly vibrant pinks brushed metal grey and glossy white and of course, the man’s own distinctive silhouette. If you can’t afford a slice of Chanel take a sip of the next best thing and keep an eye out for this threesome to hit shelves come summer.

HEADS UP
Lucozade Sport Ad
What happens when you put Team UJ in a tunnel underneath Waterloo and turn off the lights? Like rats we ran to the bar, obviously, but not before we caught Tinie Tempah introducing the new Lucozade Sport TV advertisement from a giant boxing ring in cavernous surroundings that mirrored the pretty explosive commercial on screen. Everyone’s favourite urban artist (and how we love his bow-tied, coloured trouser ways) stars alongside Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker and Amateur World Boxing Champion Katie Taylor in the ad, which features a remix of Tinie’s ‘Simply Unstoppable’, and will be released online tomorrow.

PODCAST OF THE WEEK
F*ck Spring
We’ll be honest – when this mix was conceived by Audiosushi for UJ, it was with black daffodils and dark, atmospheric days in mind (because the title doesn’t quite say it all). But with the amazing sunshine on our faces and a skip in our flippity-floppity steps, we’re re-appropriating the chilled-out likes of Burial and Radiohead, Gold Panda, Friendly Fires and Soup Clap for perfect laying in the grass and staring up at the blue sky tunes. Chill the f*ck out – with this weather, nothing’s that bad.

This week’s hottest foodie destination
The Brunswick House Café
The hidden gem in a house of brick-a-brack
30 Wandsworth Road, SW8 2LG.
020 7720 2926
www.brunswickhousecafe.co.uk
Location
Leave Vauxhall tube via the wrong exit at your peril. (You want exit 6). Brunswick House, the grand Georgian riverside mansion, within whose walls reside the wonderfully barmy LASSCO architectural salvage store and the Brunswick House Café, feels like the last house standing in the middle of the Vauxhall Cross gyratory system. Half a dozen pelican crossings later, you’ll need a cocktail. Make it a Corpse Reviver.
Vibe
Feels like a pop-up but isn’t; the best of both worlds. The old house and ballroom full of curios is home to good food and £6.50 cocktails. This dynamite proposition is catnip to South London’s skinniest, greediest jolies laides and on-their-uppers aristos.
Flavours
Whip-smart and easy on the eye, young chef Jackson Boxer has done the pop-up scene (having cooked at his brother Frank’s Café and Campari Bar, the sensation of Summer ’09 if you recall) though his ‘establishment’ foodie credentials are rock solid too. His is ‘school of St John cooking’. Rare roast topside of beef atop dripping-anointed toast is always on at lunch and I’ve been back more than once for the confit Old Spot with broken eggs. Afterwards, there are Portuguese custard tarts and coffee by Jack Coleman (London’s roaster du jour). It all comes cheap. Even at dinner (Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights only), dishes don’t top a tenner. You might find cockles, mussels and fino for £7.20 or, for £4.40, white beans, garlic and ‘house lardo.’
Décor
Beneath the bunting, dusty chandeliers and old restaurant signs, seating is at any chair or table you can find and it’s all for sale. The vintage placky stacking thing I sat on had an £8 tag dangling off it but I could have chosen better. Next time, I’ll try the faux Alvar Aalto at £30. The ramshackle terrace out front with its wrought iron love seats and birdbaths is fun too.
Upshot
Cheapness and nowness are very, very strong attributes. This place’s moment may be just that but we’ll be talking about it – and Jackson Boxer – in years to come.
