We blame it on L.A. When we first heard about the First Fridays food truck meet-ups near Venice Beach, with pimped-up trucks stenciled with pin-ups, selling ice cream sandwiches, dim sum, kimchi burgers and truffle popcorn, and every Hollywood hipster flocking to hang out there, we wanted a piece of the action.
Now we’ve done Lucky Chip, Pitt Cue, Big Apple (@tweat_up!); we're gearing up to eat at Zoo Nights tonight (stalls include Churros Bros. Meatwagon, Jamon Jamon, BánhmÍ11 and others are going to be rocking up); and will probably hit Red Market after Lovebox this weekend - but we’re still not totally jaded about the trend.
Not when it’s starting to get seriously stylish – with Wahaca getting involved, doing up a 50's van, and selling fresh Mexican out of the back of it, in Canary Wharf. (Turn up today or tomorrow for free burritos!) They’re going to be there all summer, and you can vote online on where they’ll pitch up after that. Try the signature pork pibil, slow cooked in a Yucatecan marinade – unlike those late-night kebab stops from your youth, you’re not going to regret it.
