It’s also a sentiment that we’re noticing at a few of London’s more familiar institutions: new mini-venues setting up within existing larger ones. Breathing new life into the old guard, as it were.
With its quirky kitsch, the recent Luna & Curious micro-store at The Sanderson is a perfect example. In addition to their unique décor, modern bone china and odd jewellery, the Luna & Curious collective are also getting their white-washed fingers into the Sanderson’s Mad Hatter Afternoon Tea, offering guests the chance to win prizes like VIP hotel stays and limited edition ceramic teapots from a secret L&C treasure chest.
If you prefer your drinks without the retail angle, try Dre Masso’s LTD at The Social – another sub-space resurrecting a more, ahem, ‘established’ establishment. Although a good bit into its stride, the former Green & Red co-owner’s 3 month bar-within-a-bar is all about low key fun and high impact brand revitalization. Intimate, laid back and mighty enjoyable, we’re loving their transience, selective stock, and killer shake-and-serve jar margaritas.
So that’s one way to breathe some fresh air into your already-entrenched hotel or bar. But what if you can’t find anyone to host your micro-venue? Well, then you just go a-wandering…
Not so much a bar within as a bar without a bar, The Fourth Wall is the latest event/space from Rathbone Place’s Bourne & Hollingsworth, a roaming cocktailery that changes location every weekend.
So sort of like The Littlest Hobo. But more drunk.
