Weekend Guide
UJ Banner

We’re in a party mood this weekend at UJ! Blame it on the weather but we’re just craving good tunes, an up-for-it crowd and the chance to dance. All of which you’ll find in varying guises at the newly opened and achingly glam Le Baron, Old Street’s Hacienda-inspired XOYO offering up the choicest DJs and yes, even in London Fields with a nine-hour party sesh. In between donning your dancing shoes take your pick from Swedish electro pop newcomers Pippa Marias, New York artist George Condo’s retrospective, a pop-up cabaret club and the best burgers in town.

PODCAST
Mix – Hot City For Plump DJs

Need a warm-up for this Saturday’s Plump DJs party at XOYO? Then we suggest you give Hot City’s mix a listen. Part-skippy garage part-90s house, it starts on an 80s tip then goes on to old school anthems like ‘I’m a Dreamer’, followed by unabashed bassy goodness from the likes of RD produced by Zinc and Deadboy’s heart wrenching 4/4 banger ‘U Cheated’. Bang it out!

ART: George Condo at the Hayward Gallery
New York based artist George Condo’s mid career retrospective landed in London last month for the rest of the year (next stop Frankfurt) with a provocative and satirical body of work that takes inspiration from American caricature, European history portraits and Greek mythology. Counting Will Self and Kanye West as fans (he designs album covers for West) Condo describes his portraits as ‘…hideous and yet so utterly real’ and has done nine of the Queen alone in his weirdly kooky Looney Tunes style. Go get your head in a spin.

Time: 10am-6pm
Place: Hayward Gallery Southbank Centre, Belvedere Road, SE1 8XX
Cost: £10
