Usually we bah-humbug Christmas till December, but this year we’re definitely feeling it! Blame the weather (we always do) but the suddenly winter clime has got us hankering for hot drinks and shameless indulgence – hot toddy menus at both Artisan and Lounge Lover fyi and mulled wine, spiced cider and hearty food at The Spiegal Saloon. Or how about a decadent brunch at the Sanderson, soul-warming Spanish tapas, pop-up movie classics, a boogie Boujis style down the power station or some light retail therapy? Don’t say you’re not tempted.

COMPETITION
The Lion in the WInter
Sponsored listing

Up your culture quota for the season and win a pair of tickets to see Trevor Nunn’s fourth production at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, The Lion In Winter with Robert Lindsay and Joanna Lumley.

A family Christmas becomes a family at war. Henry II, not so young as he was, invites his estranged wife Eleanor of Aquitane, and his three sons, Richard, Geoffrey and John, to spend the festive season with him, his mistress Princess Alais, and her brother, the young King Philip of France.  Will Henry name who is to be his successor as King of England?  Their yuletide celebration turns into a combat zone of deceit, betrayal, bitter power games and scabrous wit.

UJ have three pairs of tickets to giveaway.
To enter, tell us the name of another West End production Trevor Nunn has staged this year. Answers to:
competition@urbanjunkies.com

* Winners tickets are valid Monday – Thursday performances until 19 January 2012 and also excludes performances from 19 December 2011 – 1 January 2012. Subject to availability. Promoter reserves the right to substitute prize for that of equal or greater value if necessary.

Head to Mexico for the final word in international festival going. Now in its 5th year with a line-up as long as your arm and then some – Danny Howells, Kate Simko and Simon Barker for starters – BPM kicks off on December 30 in preparation for a massive NYE party with New York spinner Danny Tenaglia and Luca Bacchetti at the Blue Parrot Beach Club. Playa del Carmen might be a tad on the touristy side, but it’s no Cancun or like every fashion designer, model and actress of the moment why not base yourself in Tulum (with us!) and pick and choose your party moments? Get a flight now, and see you in the sand.

FOOD: Eyre Brothers 10-Year Anniversary
He who can do no wrong on the foodie front David Eyre (founder of The Eagle, nuff said) is celebrating the 10-year anniversary of his Shoreditch Iberian tapas eaterie with a month-long special menu. Incorporating smash hits from the last decade – including salt cod brandada, Mozambique tiger prawns piri-piri and Tarta de Santiago – dishes can be accompanied by matching wine. So sit back in the Waugh Thistleton designed interior – yes, the insanely long bar is American Black Walnut and yes, the ceiling and floors are sustainable Jatoba wood – and indulge shamelessly.

This Sunday brings you 1978 classic Grease, which you can watch from a swing under a sky of umbrellas or from a glass platform (we’re as intrigued as you are) while sucking on vintage sweets – giant gobstoppers and striped candy canes as well as pop corn and ice-cream – after perusing the vintage film poster exhibition. Free entry if you spend £10 at various restaurants including Yo! Sushi and Café Rouge. Works for us.

Time 8pm
Place: The Nomad, Whiteleys Shopping Centre, Queensway, W2 4YN
Cost: £8 (kids £4)

BOOK AHEAD
James Knappett at the Cornish Grill

We can hardly keep up but the latest chef of the moment getting foodies all het up is a certain James Knappett. His CV is impressive to say the least (Per Se, Noma, The French Laundry) and he’s just left his head chef position at Marcus Wareing for The Ledbury, his final stop before setting up solo. Catch him while you can for a one-off slap-up Sunday lunch at the Redhook’s 3rd Cornish Grill. Expect the finest Cornish mackerel, scallops and beef, coffee and truffles and a Grey Goose aperitif and DIY Bloody Marys. Seating will be tables of four or more, so kind of like a lunchtime supper club and there are only 80 tickets, so no dilly-dallying. Book online or call Rochelle on 07931 359499.

From 1pm, £50 for four course, plus £22 for wine matching. Redhook, 89 Turnmill Street, EC1M 5QU
