It’s December already and we’ve only just pulled ourselves back together after a three-day party at the Patrón speakeasy where we quaffed one too many Top Hat martinis… moving on. This weekend promises to be a goodie – there’s ballet (the Nutcracker, you guessed it) for the more rarefied, Mylo’s EPP at XOYO for disco lovers, Asian cuisine and top quality burgers for foodies. As for Christmas shopping, relax, we’ve got you covered with excellent festive artisanal fare and speciality food and drink at The Dock Kitchen and Barbican. Oh, and a few big name sample sales you’d be a fool to miss. Indulge, indulge, indulge.

FRIDAY

DANCE: Matthew Bourne’s Nutcracker
If the ballet seems a little too refined for a Friday night – think again! Matthew Bourne loves to defy convention and his productions always rebel against tinsel and good taste. Celebrating its 20th anniversary, as usual Bourne’s Nutcracker is a charmingly irreverent interpretation of the traditional Christmas favourite.

Time: 7:30pm
Place: Sadler’s Wells Theatre, Rosebery Avenue, EC1R 4TN
Cost: £10 - £60
Info: Matthew Bourne’s Nutcracker

FOOD: Novikov Restaurant and Bar
Russia’s most successful restaurateur Arkady Novikov (he heads up more than 50 high-end restaurants in Moscow) is taking on London and showing no fear. The just-opened Novikov – a huge 19,000 sq ft space in Mayfair – will comprise of two restaurants, Asian and Italian, and a lounge bar. The Italian restaurant opened yesterday, and the Asian restaurant, serving up pan-Asian cuisine under the eagle eye of Japan trained head chef Jeff Tyler (fresh from the Mandarin Oriental Marrakech) opened just last week, too. So why not get a headstart – it’s open the best part of the day, last reservations around 11pm – and check out the menus or kick back in the lounge bar where DJs hit the decks on Friday night.

Time: 7am-1am
Place: 50a Berkeley Street, W1J 8HA
Cost: Starters from £6, mains from £12

Electroboutique
Electroboutique pop-up at the Science Museum
Sponsored listing

It was only a matter of time before there was an exhibition dedicated to electronics and the like. Designed by artists Alexei Shulgin and Aristarkh Chernyshev, the Electroboutique does what it says on the can – as well as throwing up issues of consumerism, capitalism and media control. For electronic-enthusiasts there’s a giant iPhone sculpture, and for haters there’s a padded TV that you can smash with a hammer.

Electroboutique. Free. Until spring 2012.
Science Museum, Exhibition Road, SW7 2DD; 10am-6pm, except 24-26 December

PODCAST
Mylo’s Ecstasy, Passion & Pain Discomix

Crank up the volume and get yourself in the mood for some serious partying with this cracking discomix from beat-loving electro wizard Mylo – we’re talking hip-wiggling nu-disco (including Crazy P’s remix of Little Boots’ Shake) and genius throwbacks to the early 80s (John Carpenter’s The End, oh yes). Your weekend starts here.

FOOD: Bukowski Grill at Boxpark
The burger frenzy doesn’t seem to be waning so we’re riding the bandwagon and heading to Boxpark for our next fix (we heard amazing things about the Patty & Bun pop-up at the Tabernacle last weekend). Shipping container locale aside, Bukowski Grill has hints of a classic diner (think low-hanging lamps and Americana), but it’s the Josper-oven charcoal grilled burgers that have got us drooling. The blitzing heat intensifies the flavours while retaining the delicious, dripping moisture of the meat. Oh my! We’ve got our eye on the Mother F Burger – well with a name like that…

Time: 11am-8pm
Place: Unit 61 Boxpark, Bethnal Green Road, E1 6GY
Cost: Burgers from £5.50

PARTY: Mylo’s Ecstasy, Passion and Pain at XOYO
What started off as a one-off disco party one balmy spring night in Dalston Superstore is now in its fifth instalment with its second Saturday night slot at the pumpin’ XOYO (we can’t help it, we always have a good time here!). Mylo – him of iconic hands-in-the-air track Drop The Pressure – brings together yet another discotastic line-up (previous nights have seen the likes of Breakbot and The Magician absolutely killing it) and presents (as well as playing himself) French label Tigersushi boss Joakim, the super-hyped (and he’s just 17!) Madeon, Belgian disco kings Villa and the much-loved legendary Justin Robertson. Prepare to boogie.

We have five pairs of tickets to giveaway for Mylo’s underground night of disco this Saturday. To win just tell us the name of Mylo’s debut 2004 album.

BOOK AHEAD
Festive feasts at The Dock Kitchen

Forget The Dock Kitchen Christmas market (for a moment at least!). We’re all about The Dock Kitchen’s (all industrial chic with exposed brick, metalwork and Tom Dixon copper light shades) mouth-watering Christmas menu. The Mexican Christmas Eve salad with fennel, orange, smoked peppers, radishes, coriander & lime; pheasant, chestnut & cognac soup and a slow-roast, spiced Lebanese lamb shoulder have got us all in a spin. Booked up this weekend, but the menu runs until the Dec 23, so get in there.

PARTY PHOTOS
Patrón XO Cafe Noir
Sponsored listing

It was with bittersweet regret that we said goodbye to the three days of fun we had at the Patrón XO Cafe Noir pop-up speakeasy with Jonny Woo and Boca de Luz. Singing, dancing, costume changes (three a night no less!), amazing cocktails – the Patrón Top Hat martinis kept us up for days – all mixed up with cocktail school by day and pop quizzes by night. So a big thanks to Jonny – his wonderful voice and entertaining ways – it’s good to have him in the West End. We want more!
