Then Burger & Lobster opened its doors in Mayfair, offering whole lobster at a strangely affordable £20 (and a strangely appealing plastic bib to wear). New York may have beaten us to it (we love Red Hook Lobster Truck), but it seems our own fair city is on the edge of a crustacean craze.
The Hill Bar & Brasserie in Belsize Park has gone all out with their new menu, offering a veritable lobster feast with Lobster Bisque, Canadian Lobster Tails and ‘Overboard’ burger (yes it has Lobster in it). But it’s the Lobster Mac ‘n’ Cheese that’s got us excited – decadent comfort food to cure the January blues.
If that wasn’t enough (and you aren’t sick of the word lobster yet), we hear rumours of a crustacean heavy menu at the new Hawksmoor bar launching late Feb in the recesses of its Spitalfields flagship. Once a dodgy nightclub, they’re replacing stripper poles with their signature leather/mahogany/exposed-brick mix. Steering away from the usual meat-fest, the lobster roll will finally take centre stage.
So it seems the lobster roll is on a roll. We’re sure it will catch on.
