It may be grey outside but it seems the city is determined to cheer us up. Pick up The Good Times from creative collective The Church of London for a happy, rainbow-coloured take on a tabloid and look out for Smile for London’s poetic animations on the tube (surely the place you need a pick-me-up most). Once you’re grinning ear to ear (would be a change, no?), spend the weekend shopping at the Bape pirate pop-up, feasting at Meat People and relaxing to sultry sounds at Jazz Cafe. If that doesn’t beat the Jan blues, just take a look at this week’s product picks. Go on, we know you want to scroll.

HEADS UP
Alternative Art
Hockney’s show at the RA may be receiving all the media mayhem but with tickets already sold out on some dates (seriously… we’ve got to get our skates on) there’s going to be queuing involved. Forget standing in the cold (and getting out your wallet for that matter) and skip smugly round the corner to the Alan Cristea Gallery to see the artist’s most complex multi-viewpoint lithographs for free.
David Hockney: Moving Focus. Until Feb 18. 34 Cork Street, W1S 3NU

COMPETITION
Win two tickets to see Hay Fever
Sponsored listing
Judith Bliss, once glittering star of the London stage, now in early retirement, is still enjoying life with more than a little high drama. To spice up her weekend, Judith invites a young suitor to join her in the country. However, her novelist husband and two eccentric children have had the same idea and any hope for private flirtation disappears as the family’s guests begin to arrive. Misjudged meetings, secret seductions and scandalous revelations all run riot at the most outrageous of all house parties.
This will be the first time a Noël Coward play has been staged in the Noël Coward Theatre since it was renamed. Howard Davies is to direct Lindsay Duncan, reuniting the director and actor who together received seven major international theatre awards for their 2001 collaboration on Coward’s seminal Private Lives. Duncan is joined by Jeremy Northam, Kevin R McNally and Olivia Colman in Coward’s sublime comedy of bad manners.
To win a pair of tickets to see the show, email us at competition@urbanjunkies.com
* T&C's – 2 Tickets valid for Mon – Thurs performances & 10 Feb performance from 10 Feb – 22 Feb excluding 14 Feb. Subject to availability. There is no cash alternative to the prizes, they are non-refundable and non-transferable and not for resale.
Opens 10 Feb at the Noël Coward Theatre, St. Martin's Lane, London, WC2N 4AA. Box Office – 0844 482 5140

Seventies Soul
Nobody does 70s throwback like Mayer Hawthorne. The Detroit-born twenty-something is a soul maven, whose sexy, modern yet classic tunes have received rave reviews in the US. Finally, he’s crossing the pond where he’ll be performing, along with supporting act Chromeo, new album ‘How Do You Do’. It’s classic romance combined with playful soul (and there’s even a helping hand from Snoop Dog). See you there!

FYI
1 Lombard Street
After a subtle refurb and the addition of a new bar menu, this stalwart of all-day dining is once again looking shiny and new. Head to the circular bar centred beneath an impressive white dome for one of the best glasses of house champagne in the city.

AGENDA PICK
We Love Brunch
After checking out Love Brunch at the Sanderson before Christmas, we were sold. Tables, brunch and champagne that turns into cocktails and disco dancing with seriously good music – think DC10 Ibiza and you’d be on the right track. This week’s party is at The Collection, so if you haven’t seen the refurb yet, tis a perfect excuse. And as the party’s over by 6, you can be in bed by 8 (so Sunday isn’t a write off). Perfect.
Love Brunch, at The Collection. Jan 28. 12pm-6pm, 264 Brompton Road, SW3 2AS

PODCAST
Rrose Selaveuve DJ mix
When we heard that Jeffrey/Audiosushi has a brother, we got excited. When we heard that Jeffrey’s brother lives in China, is also a dj and had made us a playlist, we had to press play! A diversion from J’s bang-it-out mix last week, his little bro’s mixed us a discotastic podcast, with tunes from some heavy hitters, including Stevie Wonder and Eddie C. This one you can play in the office, so put it on and play it loud!
