We like tequila. No, that’s a lie. We love tequila. So Café Pacifico’s 80s prices are more than a little dangerous. Though we’re tempted to drink Margaritas all weekend, Eat Rich or Die Trying’s sweet supperclub and Yayoi Kusama’s dot crazy art might just draw us away from the bar. Make sure you catch Plump DJs headlining at XOYO (more tequila?) then don your new Lanvin sunglasses to hide the evidence.

Cadenza at Low |
Ibiza comes to London tonight in the form of Ibiza regular Michel Cleis (Cadenza) with support from Stef Manni. Newbie member’s club Low is the perfect fit: it’s an intimate space with a stellar sound system (and they do a mean club sandwich). If you’re familiar with Luciano’s Vagabundos parties, then you’ll know what to expect: tropical, beat–infused mixes that will get you excited for this year’s season. Check out one of Michel’s tracks to get you in the mood!

DRINK:
CafÉ Pacifico |

EAT:
10 Greek Street |
It’s almost impossible to find a decent reasonable meal in the West End but Café Pacifico has solved the problem with their new 80s lunch menu. Celebrating three decades of nachos and tequila, they’re turning back the clock and serving signature dishes at 1982 prices. Start the weekend early and head to the bar at noon (offer is on 12–3:30). £2.95 Margaritas? We’ll have ten.
Quietly opening this week without a hint of press, 10 Greek Street continues the trend of understated Soho spots (think Duck Soup, Fernandez & Wells). Sit at the bar and let ex–Wapping Project chef Cameron Emirali serve you small plates of mod-European food ‘til you’re full. No reservations at dinner (yes, we know) but you can wait in the pub next door and they’ll call when a table’s ready. Good – because this is definitely not queuing weather! |

Too cold to go out? Don’t fancy slaving over a hot stove? Tired of MSG–laden chow mein and fluorescent curries? Fear not. Housebites will find you a local chef and deliver gourmet food to your door. Better still, it costs the same as your normal greasy pizza. Takeaway never tasted this good.

EAT:
Eat Rich or Die Trying |
PARTY:
XOYO + Plump DJs |
New kid on the dining club block, Eat Rich or Die Trying is offering something a little bit different. Skipping the usual savoury fare, they’ve devised a late night, six–course menu dedicated to desserts. Their inauguration into dining events is aptly named "Love divinations, apparitions and cookie dough" (well V–day is looming). Expect traditional desserts reworked in playful ways that look too good to eat. But you will. You will.
Plump DJs return to XOYO for another headline show following a sellout party back in November. There’ll be bass heaviness from the dance music veterans alongside sets from Italian electro–house hunks Reset!, and Burns (who is crossing over into the mainstream with releases with Kelis and Calvin Harris). This is one for the big party schedule – check out the warm up 80s mix they’ve made exclusively for UJ above.

For something less party–party, behold, Smalltown’s Best of 2011. This off–the–floor mix will leave you feeling nostalgic for last year: tracks include M83’s Midnight City, Santigold’s Go and Real Human from Drive. Office, beach and car–suitable. We love.

New Gen Topshop T–shirts |

Heads up everyone for New Gen’s collaboration with Topshop for LFW. The New Gen alumni (JW Anderson, Christopher Kane, Jonathan Saunders, Mary Katrantzou etc.) have designed a line of different tees (with flowers, faces, mirrors – you name it) with all proceeds going to charity. Our fave is this Erdem number, reminiscent of nan’s china.

ART:
Yayoi Kusama |
FILM:
Young Adult at Hackney Picturehouse |
Yayoi Kusama was reveling in dots and spots decades before Damien Hirst hit the scene. Don’t believe us? Just take a wander through her dot–obsessed exhibition at the Tate, which covers her major work from the 50s to the present. The Madonna of the art world, she has constantly reinvented her style (often from the confines of a psychiatric institution). Get trippy with her new mirrored infinity room, surrounding yourself with reflected kaleidoscopic repetitions of light and colour. Oh and dots, lots of dots.
If you were a fan of the snappy quips and intelligible remarks from Juno, then you’ll enjoy screenwriter Diablo Cody and director Jason Reitman’s second collaboration: Young Adult. The loathsome lead (Charlize Theron), a one–time Prom Queen–turned–teen fiction writer returns to her hometown in a bid to destroy her high school sweetheart’s marriage. The non–Hollywood ending, and the fact that the Oscars have ignored it, is a sure sign that it’ll be another edgy offering from the pair.

The master of tulle, Alber Ebaz, has stepped into optical territory and designed Lanvin’s first ever sunglass collection for Harvey Nichols. Dabbous – Fine dining finds its edge |
39 Whitfield Street, W1T 2SF | 0207 323 1544 | www.dabbous.co.uk
Location
Tucked behind Goodge Street Station, this isn’t the most obvious spot for a restaurant of this calibre (neighbours include Pollock’s Toy Museum and a Tesco Metro). But don’t let that put you off. This is a destination in itself. |
Vibe |
Despite the fine dining menu, the atmosphere is surprisingly relaxed. Elbows on tables aren’t sneered at here. Forget the snooty staff and stiffness de rigueur in the upper echelons of the restaurant world. This is the future of haute cuisine. |
Flavours |
Clean, light and beautifully restrained, Ollie Dabbous’ understanding of flavour and texture is spot on. First timers should go for the tasting menu to sample the breadth of his cooking: from the refreshing salad of fennel, lemon balm and pickled rose petals to the beef tartar with cigar oil, whisky and rye, finishing with a chocolate and virgin hazelnut oil ganache with basil moss and sheeps’ milk ice cream. Each dish delivers. Nothing disappoints. |
Décor |
Verging on austere, it’s all stripped back industrial chic – think concrete floors, bare light bulbs and exposed pipes. The effect is stark, understated, but not devoid of character. Not a pressed linen tablecloth or silver cloche in sight. |
Upshot |
At last a restaurant you can actually book! And if you prefer to dine in dark corners, head downstairs to the spacious basement bar for creative cocktails and bar snacks with a difference. Upstairs, it’s the perfect restaurant for novices and chef groupies alike: the cooking is outstanding but never intimidating. It seems Parisian bistronomy has finally hit the London food scene.
