We’re whisking you around the world this week (figuratively speaking that is) with Argentina in Dalston, Cuba in the East End and NYC in St James. Oh and a Parisian b-day party… in, err, Paris. If the London life is more you’re thing then check out Hawksmoor’s new subterranean bar, watch Agy tread the boards and party in Stokey. And one more thing: if the Fabergé egg thief is out there… shame on you!

PARTY:
Scandal with Fred P at Bar A Bar |
Anybody who’s seen 2009 Argentinian big hitter ‘El Secreto de Sus Ojos’ will recognise Ricardo Darín, who stars in the latest Buenos Aires-based noir thriller, Carancho (vulture). It looks at the unsavoury relationship between an over-worked junior doctor and a personal injury attorney - with the usual dose of sex, violence, dark humour and stylish editing, of course.
Ignore the hyper-underground (ie shabby) location - the music will more than make up for the fact that your soles are sticking to the floor. Fred P, the man behind Black Jazz Consortium, and frontrunner of classic NYC house returns with his deep, bassy beats. He’ll be joined by Scandal residents Greg Brockmann and Camille Hooz.

Stevie Wonder on Sesame Street? Prince on The Muppets? If this sounds vaguely familiar then a night with Furious Styles TV might be up your street. On Monday they celebrate the very best of Soul Train, the TV variety show of the 70s which spanned four decades and had everyone from Jackson 5 to Run DMC perform (and was the show on which Fresh Prince’s Uncle Phil proposed to Vivian - fact). They’ll be showing classic hip-hop, soul and R&B clips from the show’s repertoire. Dance tips here.

MARKET:
Havana Club presents
Havana Santiago |
With Gregg’s Table and Market Cafe opening in the same week, it seems the greasy spoon is back. Unlike Wallace’s British brasserie though, Broadway Market’s latest addition is inspired by the classic Italian Formica cafes of the 50s. It’s another all-day dining joint so stroll in any time for a jam doughnut and fizzy pop. Or go all out and order the steak and kidney pudding for two.
Cuban culture hits the East End with a Latin inspired party to kick off a week-long photography exhibition by Pia Ebrill. Wander the barrio-style market while listening to Gilles Peterson’s mix of Afro Latin jazz and electronic drum rhythms (with a few rum cocktails thrown in for good measure). Churros and Mojitos all round please!
