It seems like everyone’s spirits are up this week if the pavements of Soho are anything to go by. This weekend we’re thinking lighthearted and fun. It’s been hard to keep up: between Rihanna’s new TV show co-host announcement (nice one Henry Holland), No Doubt getting back together (!!), and Azealia Banks and Diplo’s download launch, there’s been a lot of movement on the music front. If you missed OFWGKTA tickets then we have other music options: Madonna’s album launch party, Red Bull Music Academy’s house session, or, later in the month, Mark Ronson’s score for a new ballet. Otherwise, we have some raw food, theatre and a healthy dose of shopping for him and her. There’s even a bike tour thrown in for good measure. So enjoy, preferably with a G&T or tequila in hand.

EAT:

THEATRE:
The Girl in the Yellow Dress |
|
Grab a raw lunch today at new eatery 42°Raw, which hails from Copenhagen. Kofler & Kompanie (who brought you the Minotaur and Pret a Diner) are behind this venture, where (no surprise) everything served is raw: think interesting salads, sandwiches and smoothies (cocoa and date please!). If food is heated it is only to 42° - the Lasagne should be interesting then…

|
Only the second play by new writer Craig Higginson, The Girl in the Yellow Dress has exploded onto the London theatre scene. Set in the height of Parisian summer, the story follows the racial and sexual tensions between English tutor Celia and her French-Congolese pupil Pierre. Expect smouldering looks aplenty.

PARTY:
Madonna MDNA Launch Party at G-A-Y Late |
|
PARTY:
Red Bull Music Academy presents Kerri Chandler and San Soda |
|
Love or loathe Madonna and her hip-thrusting, hyper-raunchy shenanigans of late, the launch party for her new album MDNA at G-A-Y Late is obviously going to be a fun one. We expect statement outfits (you saw the Super Bowl) and plenty of grinding - see Girl Gone Wild. As she herself said, how can you go wild and not grind?
|
|
Another beat in the very strong house pulse right now, this time south of the river. RBMA hold a huge session tonight with what’s sure to be an inimitable set from deep house maven Kerri Chandler (it is 7 hours long, after all), while San Soda (from Red Bull’s 2008 alumni) and FCL of the We Play House label take over the basement.

If you’re not staying over, you can download the cycle routes here (sunset cycle looks best) - and go guerrilla on a Boris.

Lower Manhattan menswear arrives in London this weekend with Jack Spade opening its first UK outpost in Soho. Expect functional and classy design with a penchant for polos, trenchcoats, shirts and unique accessories. Bags have always been their thing though, so get yourself a waxed brief for work or a Whale tote for play. Check out the Selima Optique sunglass range too, for a modern take on vintage classics.

When we saw the names behind the Royal Opera House’s newest ballet, we had to triple check. Mark Ronson has written the score (a cycle of nine love songs), costumes are by Gareth Pugh, Rufus Wainwright heads up the orchestra and choreography is by Wayne McGregor - not to mention special live performances from Boy George, Wale, Jonathan Pierce from The Drums and The Kills’ Alison Mosshart. And breathe.
