There's a few options for end of the month fun. #1 – be defeated and seek shelter in a cinema or gallery, #2 – eat exotically or #3 – drink and party. We've got all three this weekend. Visit the V&A for a free exhibition or take your pick from Raindance’s stellar line-up, eat experimental Japanese and Indian street food, or simply go for gourmet burgers and beer. All else fails… PARTY! |

BFC – Yang Du |
We're huge fans of BFC fashion designer Yang Du. From North China via Central St Martins, she's worked with the likes of Vivienne Westwood, Giles Deacon and John Galliano. We love the bright, fun motifs and Lion King-style aesthetic of her AW12 collection. And stay tuned for SS13…

ART:
Go Figure at V&A |
DRINK:
Shoreditch Butchery |
Creating a scene on the Seine, Wanderlust has been the place to hang out this summer. Bringing a little London hip to Paris, they've been teaming up with the V&A for some fashion-inspired events. Next on the agenda? Go Figure: an evening celebrating the people behind the pencils (aka fashion illustration). Expect performances, films, installations and interactive experiences from the likes of Jarno Kettunen, Artaksinya and David Poole. |
The Shoreditch Butchery (situated in Room 2 of regular haunt XOYO) is no ordinary pub. Décor is by street artist and Banksy cohort Vhils , and New York's Brooklyn Lager, Singapore's Tiger Beer and local Redchurch Brewery's Shoreditch Blonde are the beers on draught. Cocktails come as a signature three – Vodka Something Girly, Giant Tropical Rum Punch, Tequila Aperitivo – while food is du jour: smoked hot dogs and sliders (meatball, burger and beetroot). |

RAINDANCE |

Film Pick |
Like Sundance, but this side of the Pacific (hence the appropriate name), Europe's largest independent film festival has started in London. There's everything from a Balkan Cinema strand – see Montevideo - Taste of a Dream, which focuses on Yugoslavia's entry into the 1930 World Cup – to the Best of British, Europe and North American indies. Our pick is The Casserole Club. Set in 60s American suburbia, a group of neighbouring housewives organise a dinner party cooking contest which quickly degenerates into an orgy. Oh, and it marks Kevin Richardson's (of Backstreet Boys fame) acting debut. |

PARTY:
Red Bull Music Academy
at Plan B |
If you missed their Italian summer stint, head to PRET A DINER's Burlington Social Club at the Royal Academy for much of the same: the art of mixology, Michelin starred cuisine and a chance to see RA Now, the first show to feature works by all of the current Royal Academicians. Master mixologists will takeover the scaffold bar (hailing from London, Barcelona, New York, Warsaw and Paris) while Asian-inspired cuisine will be the order of the day – try sea bream sushi and soy foam or teriyaki ox cheeks. |
It's time for a RBMA eclectic house shakedown. The next event will see two house legends – Chez Damier (one half of The Morning Factory and Detroit's Rick Wilhite – as well as newer artists who have reinvented the genre. Expect avant-garde beats from Jam City, hip hop influences from MadTeo and 90s house and techno from London producer Citizen. End the night with RBMA graduate and deep house maven Mr Beatnick. |

DEATH BY BURRITO – Burritos to die for |
Catch, 22 Kingsland Road, E2 8DA | 020 7729 6097 | @deathbyburrito1
Location
Anyone who's been to Catch in Shoreditch knows the crack: it's a bit of a dive but fun nonetheless. The downstairs bar now plays casa to new Mexican bar and grill Death By Burrito – and it works.
Vibe |
It's loud, it's bustling and it's dark. This is not a restaurant for fine dining, it's all about good food and good times, where wooden cutlery is cool and using your hands is encouraged. Tunes du jour blast out (Frank Ocean and Azealia Banks when we were there), and the bar remains constantly packed; though table service means you can bypass waiting for drinks. It's a good second date spot (owing to the flattering candlelight and strong cocktails), or a fun pre-party den with friends. |
Flavours |
Brought to you by Rebel Dining Society's Shay Ola and Ryan Chetiyawardana (of Mr Lyan and Whistling Shop), expect hearty yet intricately flavoured combinations from a simple menu. This is food you get on the streets of Mexico City, but with a few gourmet ingredients thrown in. Crab cakes were crispy, the ceviche fresh and the Drunken Beans were deliciously smoky. The burritos are inventive: grilled duck breast and chimichurri, braised pig cheek and crackling, and smoked beef rib and sweet potato, which all come with their exceptional guacamole. Get the Baja fish tacos and slaw for Tulum incarnate. Drinks are tequila only (Jose Cuervo, no less): go for the Taqueria Toreador – their twist on a Margarita – and start (and finish) with their deconstructed Sangritas. |
Décor |
It's back to basics here (very Shoreditch): wooden backed booths and a few tables squeezed together make for intimate dining. |
Upshot |
The new go-to place for decent Mejicano. With Jay Z instead of mariachi. Mola! |
