ALL NIGHT LONG

London goes 24 hours

“The city that never sleeps” is a maxim that no longer applies solely to New York. Something odd has been happening in le capital. The post-10pm restaurant slots are always fully booked, coffee shops are offering up cocktails and the midnight feast concept has taken off (finally!). London, it seems, has been getting involved in some after dark love.

LATE
First up is the late-night coffee shop model. East London institution the Shoreditch Grind, which is open until 1am at weekends, has just launched its winter cocktail and food menu (swap your macchiato for a rhubarb and ginger Negroni). A recording studio has just gone in upstairs too, and plans to extend into the courtyard mean that you can expect the Grind buzz at all hours.

LATER
After party fun has been few and far between: 6am finishes at Ministry being one of the only party-til-dawn options. Now there’s plenty to do until sun up, with restaurants getting in on the late night action. Enjoy the Heliot Lounge's huge cocktail list (and gluttonous snacks) until 5 in the morning, or head to Sushisamba's 38th floor terrace until 3am. Alternatively, Hakkasan Hanway Place will launch Ling Ling, a Parisian-inspired late night lounge which will play host to big-name DJs (like Mr Hudson) from Thursday to Friday until 2.30am (complete with late night dim sum menu).

LATEST
Then there’s the latest of the late night antics. If you missed Silencio's 24h Parisian birthday bash last week then no fear, we have our own 24h den in the form of Duck & Waffle, who now have a separate late night dinner menu from 2am-6am. And if that’s not exotic enough, book now for Day Zero, a 24-hour blowout in Mexico on December 21 to celebrate the Mayan end of the world. Held among the temples at an unopened Mayan theme park, expect a musical mix from Crosstown Rebel artists like Lazarus and Jamie Jones, as well as Mayan dancers, shamanic rituals and video mapping visuals on pyramids.
