February – we're here! Finally. Except why does it still feel like the end of January? That said, we're not going too OTT this weekend (instead we're looking forward to Ibiza...). Immersive theatre sets us up nicely for a new Clubland residency, we're enjoying two rooftop views (though neither are from The Shard) and on Sunday we'll be maxing out at a new design exhibition before settling down in front of the NFL. Let's go Ravens. |

From Larry Clark, the squirm-in-your-seat director of Kids and Bully, comes Marfa Girl, about the young, artistic community of the Texan town. As you would expect from the cult film director, it's not straightforward viewing – he decided not to show the film in any conventional cinemas, instead choosing to stream it for a day back in November. Lucky for us it's showing exclusively (with free entry) at The Book Club this month. |

If you missed out on tickets up The Shard then no worries – there's a quieter rooftop bolthole just around the corner. The Rooftop Cafe had a quiet opening earlier this month despite stellar credentials: chef Magnus Reid is ex-St John and wine is headed up by Alex Whyte of Brawn. Lunch is seasonal, sustainable and simple with a European twang – polenta, fried eggs and Serrano, pink firs and chicken liver, Onglet with avocado salsa – while breakfast's central focus is eggs done any way. From this week they will be open for dinner on Thursdays and Fridays. |

The Deviation crew has always believed that club nights should run in five-year cycles. So, after a momentous 5th birthday back in October, they decided it was time for a change. Now, they'll be shaking things up at XOYO on Friday nights with their brand of big party, loyal crowds and future-thinking artists. For the inaugural session, wunderkind Benji B and friends will takeover. |

Go West via NYC (of course)! Upper West is the latest "NY-inspired" club opening its doors to the West London crowd this weekend. Hang out in the lounge with cocktails, "NY-inspired" street food, artwork (provided by Notting Hill's West Bank gallery) and live music – they have Elton John's old piano. Otherwise, enjoy the skyline and hand-rolled cigars on the "NY-inspired" rooftop garden. Everyone else will be in the (NY-inspired…) nightclub 'Madisons', pumping to house and techno. |

Design junkies rejoice - The Design Museum's newest exhibition, Extraordinary Stories About Ordinary Things is the Tower Bridge art house doing what it does best. 'Extraordinary' is a collection of key designs that have shaped the modern world. Six key stories will take you through 100s of items including everything and anything from road signage and the red phone box to a Dyson vacuum, Apple iMac and recycled dress by Issey Miyake. The show will be transferred to the new Design Museum site on High Street Ken, which opens in 2015. |

Settle down for an all night NFL fest. Although Skyloft, Koko and The Diner Soho all have special events on, we say stay on the sofa. Bring in the Bud, the snacks and the foam fingers, and tune in to BBC2 at 11.30pm GMT for the kick off between the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens. Vibe |
Casual and noisy, but comparatively calm after their launch weekend. It's all about democratic eating here – there were big groups, small groups, loners, hoodies, suits and Soho types. Hands are encouraged, paper menus are used as an add-on to plates and food comes out as and when you want it. Names of dishes are an ironic nod to Colonel Sanders, but a world apart as the birds are sourced from Janzé in Brittany. |
Flavours |
Despite having only one main ingredient, the flavours aren't monotonous. We started with Crispy Chicken Bites, golden nuggets of buttermilk drenched popcorn chicken which came with house sauces (ranch, tangy BBQ, chilli and Caesar). You can also get them in a bun. Then came the CLT Torpedo, shredded rotisserie chicken, lettuce and tomato in a buttermilk bun, which was juicy, flavoursome and our fave. Then for the main show: pieces of rotisserie roasted chicken available in three, four or ten piece servings. The method of cooking – in an open-fire clockjack oven from the Tudor times – made for tender meat with crunchy, salty, moreish skin. Sides are predictable but spot on: slaw, double cooked chips and a deliciously Mediterranean tomato and red onion salad are all musts. |
Décor |
Design is simple (wood, hints of red, exposed brick). Benches, high tables and bar seating encourages in-and-out style eating, which we like. |
Upshot |
It's hard not to draw comparisons with other fast food-style chicken restaurants of late; after all, this is nothing new. But Clockjack Oven bridges the gap between The Chicken Shop (only rotisserie) and Wishbone (only fried) well. A one-ingredient show, but a good one. |
