Weekend Guide
---

---

This weekend we're hitting the snooze button on our partying (with one exception) and opting for a cultural cleanse: arty meanderings, a bit of Shakespeare (via Hollywood), all served with a side of lobster. Design junkies should head to the new tron-like Serpentine Pavilion, or go for an architectural walkabout at the RA. And lastly, for those who FROWed at London Collections: Men, we've got you covered (literally).

This Weekend's Picks

• FRI Lobster Fridays • SAT Kaz James at Pacha London • SUN Serpentine Pavilion 2013

Richard Rogers RA: Inside Out

Design junkies take note — famed architect Richard Rogers will have his career displayed across The Burlington Gardens space at the RA. Get to know the man behind the colourful Pompidou Centre in Paris, the iconic Lloyds of London and the Millennium Dome, and the yellow terminal 4 building of Madrid Barajas airport. If you want to delve deeper, book into one of the upcoming talks about the future of modern design.

FRIDAY

EAT:
Lobster Fridays at
Le Café Anglais
  FILM:
Much Ado About Nothing

Lets get shellfished. Le Café Anglais has fired up its grill for some Friday night lobster action. Expect yours with a side of chips and sauce – think hollandaise, mayonnaise or drawn butter for the traditionalist camp. If you want to go off-piste, get your lobster swimming in choran sauce (basically Béarnaise with tomato purée). And, if you're more turf than surf, there is always Suckling Pig Tuesdays…   Then for with Shakespearian classic Much Ado About Nothing, via Hollywood. Directed by Joss Whedon (yes, that's the creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer), this is as unconventional as Shakespeare gets. Set in a modern LA compound (Whedon's own house) but with Elizabethan dialogue, this is one for Baz Luhrmann aficionados. And, straying even further from convention, Whedon draws out some darker elements from one of the Bard's classically light-hearted comedies. We wonder if it'll be better than 10 Things I Hate About You.

For him

If you're feeling inspired by the London Collections: Men festivities, but don't want to go OTT with the catwalk-to-curb look, accessories are where to begin. Start with some bling (but not too bling) brogues by fashion star Thom Browne, go for socks by Kenzo for a subtle show of the iconic tiger, and round off with some updated classic mirrored Ray-Ban aviators. And then there's always a pocket square...

Kenzo Socks, €30

ART:
Hey, Charlie
  PARTY:
Café Mambo at Pacha London

There's no place like home. Or, should we say, there's no place like Charlie's home. Harry Cory Wright's latest exhibition (the title is a literal shout out to his brother) is a celebration of the first 50 years of his life – spent in Tillhill, Surrey – and more particularly, focuses on a certain nostalgic bend in a river and the field beside it. Taking the ordinary and making it beautifully extraordinary, expect twinkles, smoke, ethereal lighting and fireworks.   Our favourite Antipodean DJ Kaz James will be headlining at Pacha London as Café Mambo moves in for the night, as part of the Mambo On Tour series. Alongside Kaz there'll be resident Pacha DJ Jay Deep and Mambo's Matthew Charles. This is also a chance to check out the venue's huge refurb – the DJ booth has been repositioned and there's a new third room. It's the next best thing to the Terrace.

CALENDAR PICK

Wiggies

The latest pop-up at The Rising Sun Pub, Wiggies, is all about the swine: from the bar menu that includes inventive dishes such as a Pig 'n' Mac, to the usual bar offerings of pork scratchings. For those who want a sit-down affair, head upstairs to the restaurant and sink your chops into "The Pignature Dishes" – think Tibetan pork shoulder with a spicy tomato chutney, Keralan-style crispy pork belly square, and, for dessert, Percy Pig rhubarb parfaits with freeze-dried raspberries.

SUNDAY

SHOP:
The Denim Room
  SEE:
Serpentine Pavilion 2013

We'd never advocate spending a Sunday doing the dastardly jeans shop, but when it's in Selfridges' brand new Denim Room (the biggest in the world), we say get unzipping. The who's who of denim labels will be in attendance – think Hudson, Paige, J Brand and Levis – adding up to a head-dizzying 11,000 pairs. With that to contend to with, you might want to seek help at the Jeanius Bar, or keep it simple at the denim vending machine.   Get onto the grid (literally) and check out the thirteenth annual Serpentine Gallery Pavilion designed by Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto who, at the ripe age of 41, is the youngest architect to put his mark on the Pavilion. From certain points inside, the Pavilion appears to blend with the classical Serpentine Gallery building. Too trippy? Seek refreshment in the café.
