There are so many restaurant happenings this week! So, naturally, this weekend it's all about food. We are getting our American fill (Happy 4th of July!) as Covent Garden gets two major additions – Shake Shack and Five Guys, while Soho goes down the diner route. For those wanting something a little more street, head to Truck Stop and FEAST. We also have some traditional Italian fare from Bocca di Lupo's pop up trattoria, to newbie on Exmouth Market, Paesan. And if you want to party, it's under a pizza shop. Apt.

Happy 4th of July! There's so much going on this year, so if you're spoiled for choice, we've made it a bit easier for you. Tweat Up's first Truck Stop takes place tonight (and tomorrow) and in true Tweat Up fashion, expect the best food trucks from London's street food scene battling it out to keep you sated. Pick up some buttermilk fried chicken from Mother Clucker, arancini balls from Cheeky Italian and/or some Lebanese favourites from Shawara Shack (and that's just the start). There's also a smoke barbecue pit and Rotary's Mobile Margarita Mixing Machine. |
Truck Stop are offering UJ readers free entry and £10 bar spend at tonight's event. The first 10 people to email Rebecca@streetfeastlondon.com by 5pm today will get a pair of tickets. Good luck! |

DRINK:
SOHO DINER |
PARK:
Bocca di Lupo in the park |
Jam jars, milk jars and stripy straws, make way for drinks on tap, this year's hottest beverage trend by restaurants Londonwide. It's been largely prosecco to date – with Homeslice, Shrimpy's and Tozi all repping the draught, but the new Soho Diner is taking it up a notch with cocktails on tap. Sip on classics like Mojitos and Cosmos (with a side of ham and cheese fingers…) – and don't worry, the mixes are made fresh every morning. |
Soho's favourite Italian eatery is hosting a pop up trattoria in Hyde Park for ten days this July, in conjunction with the park's British Summertime festival. Pay for a combined £100 ticket, which includes a four-course dinner with wine pairings, access to the backstage bar and gig tickets for the likes of Lionel Richie and Elton John (see the full schedule here). Dishes featured include beef carpaccio, burrata and orecchiette with ‘nduja. Otherwise enjoy a 3-course meal and entrance into the park for £30. To book tickets visit the website or email inthepark@boccadilupo.com. |

The weekend is all about creativity: you'll get to play on the latest and greatest Intel products, including Ultrabook™ devices, 2-in-1s, light laptops, tablets, all-in-one PCs and smartphones, as well as hear talks from creative thinkers and artists who use Intel to inspire their creative process. PARTY:
Phonica with Fear of Flying |
Opening on Saturday for its soft launch (with 50% off the menu) is Paesan on Exmouth Market, which serves "cucina povera", in other words, Italian peasant cooking. This means simple dishes – think wild rabbit ragu with parpadelle, mussels with rosemary crostini and lemon and courgette arancini. On weekends come here for a charcuterie-heavy brunch. Plus, it's got great names attached to it – both the head chef and head mixologist come via Polpo (expect the great Negronis and Martinis) and the design team are the same people behind Bubbledogs.

Head to Dalston's Dance Tunnel this weekend for a house party with Soho stalwart record shop Phonica. Nottingham's Nail will take over the decks with his brand of garage-centric deep house, supported by Phonica's Soho and Simon Rigg. If it all gets too intense down there – and believe us, it does – take a midnight pizza break (the Full Moon with bacon dust is available from midnight) upstairs in Voodoo Rays. |

Just when you thought the NY patty trend was on the wane, in come the two biggest burger players straight from the States. First up is Danny Meyer’s Shake Shack, a New York institution with the queues to prove it. Next (and down the road) is Five Guys (Obama’s favourite burger joint), where they’ll throw in as many toppings that can fit between the buns. |

ART:
Once Upon A Time |
It's all happening at Shrimpy's this summer. First, they launched their Outside Grill, and now they've just announced a permanent (heated) terrace and all day dining outside. Come for al fresco brunch – steak with eggs and ricotta hot cakes with pecan butter crunch are our faves – or Twin Peaks afternoon (3pm-6pm), when they serve Cherry Pie and bottomless filter coffee. Points for the House of Hackney cushions. |
There are so many exhibitions on the cultural calendar this month (see our July Culturist here), but try a small-bill gallery this weekend. Gazelli Art House has launched its summer Exhibition, Once Upon a Time, which blurs the boundaries between reality and imagination. Two artists are featured – Kyung Woo, who uses geometric optical illusions and light installations, and Vittoria Corsini, whose monochrome pieces are devoid of any form. |
