This weekend we've got food on the brain, from street food festivals to a gastronomical restaurant blow out. Oh, and news just in: there's a South East Asian food festival at Southwark, too. Happy eating! If you want to get your party on, start with cocktails on tap and finish with a dance in a tunnel or a 90s Fresh Prince homage via DJ Jazzy Jeff. And for those dreaming of closing parties on the White Isle, we've even got your playlist sorted.

Belvedere Vodka Masterclass |
Learn from the Masters |
For those whose problems lay with age-old questions (Wet or dry? Shaken or stirred? Olives or a twist?), it's time for a crash course in how to 'Know your Martini'. On October 7, Belvedere Vodka is hosting a Masterclass in all things Martini. First up, learn all about Belvedere, the world's first super premium vodka, and then shake and sip it via a selection of flights with the experts as they give you a 101 about the tipple, be it wet, with an olive, or bone dry with a grapefruit twist. |

UJ Cocktail Trend Alert |
Yes, we know it's London Cocktail Week and the capital is officially cheering. Here at UJ, we've gone off piste with our own roundup of the current trending tipple – the pre-mixed cocktail. First up, cocktails on tap (thanks to the trailblazers at Soho Diner), have spread to the east via Shoreditch's latest watering hole Far Rockaway, with two pre-made cocktails on draught. Up the road and going one step further with the pre-batched serves is Hoxton newbie White Lyan, a.k.a. the bar with no ice from Ryan Chetiyawardana – think molecular cocktails such as martinis made with chicken bones (yes, really), all bottled and branded. It's the same over at The Basement at The London EDITION where cocktails come via bottles one, two, three and four. And lastly, upstairs at the EDITION, the first of the pre-mixers (and every mother's favourite), punch is back on the scene thanks to the The Punch Room, followed by Gymkhana's below ground 17th Century East India punch house, and Mayfair's newest addition No.41, serving up 41 variants of the drink. Cheers! |

DANCE:
DANIEL AVERY |
PARTY:
KERB |
We at UJ are fans of Daniel Avery - we first met him at the W Hotels' DJ Lab in Ibiza, and we've been following him ever since. His underground electronica mixes have made him one of the most in-demand producers of the last year, so we're excited to see what he throws into the mix for his Drone Logic album launch party at the Dance Tunnel. There aren't any advance tickets, but with Mr. Avery on the decks, and special guests promised too, we say take your chances and turn up late; it should be well worth it. |
Street food stars Kerb have turned one, and they're heading back to where it all began for an epic food and drink party. Expect Fundi pizza, BAO's award-winning xiao chi (the pork buns are a UJ fave), and other Kerb regulars in the heart of King's Cross. Plus, there's no going thirsty with a host of brewers, a punch bar (yay), and DJs and live music to keep the fun going. |

EAT:

TALENTED MR FOX |

Get your street food fix in South London as Brixton International Food Festival takes over Brixton Station Road with a host of mouth-watering stalls. When they say international, they mean it: there's cuisine from Ethiopia, Spain and Provence (to name a few). From market regulars such as the borough's best jerk chicken guys to visiting traders (hello, Rare Str'eat and Shebeen Queen, amongst others), there's something to sate every appetite. We're getting hungry already…

Master mixologist Matt Whiley (the brains behind the drinks at Purl and Worship Street Whistling Shop) has moved into One Leicester Street for a limited time. His MO? Classic cocktails with a twist. Our pick: the clarified Bloody Mary with pig's blood-distilled vodka and a spicy atomiser for added kick. Fun. The cocktails are also created to complement Michelin-starred Tom Harris' innovative menu, so UJ says tuck into chicken and girrole pie and knock back a cocktail (or three). |

100 Hoxton – An Asian affair |
100-102 Hoxton Street N1 6SG | 02077291444 | www.100hoxton.com |
Location |
100 Hoxton has avoided the hipster drenched Hackney road and set up shop on the cosy neighbourly alternative Hoxton Street – and it works. |
Vibe |
Sociable, relaxed and refreshingly unpretentious, this restaurant feels like a 'local', the place to come to catch up with friends. Waiters are friendly, tables are close knit and the place is abuzz with relaxed chatter and a casual soundtrack (Solange and The Knife were on during our visit). |
Flavours |
The kitchen is run by ex Ottolenghi and NOPI chefs, and it shows. The Vietnamese/Thai fusion dishes burst with sophisticated flavours, although understated is the name of the game here. The edamame and split pea fritters with halloumi and lime pickled yogurt are testament to this, as were the moreish chargrilled prawns, simply seasoned with chilli salt, aioli and lime; the grilled bream in banana leaf was melt-in your mouth while the accompaniment of cucumber and tamarind relish gave the dish multiple layers. The plates are small and meant for sharing, but if you want more hearty offerings, head for the 'on the land' section of the menu - our favourite: the pan-fried duck breast with cashew beer butter. And to drink? The cocktails follow the same principles as the food, subtle but flavoursome with a lot of kick. Expect fresh ingredients that play homage to Vietnamese classics: think lemongrass, chilli, lime and lychee. |
Décor |
Low hanging industrial lights, polished concrete floors and leather green sofas make this a restaurant you want to settle into and bunk in for the evening. The bar in the middle of the room gives the place its design kudos, no doubt thanks to designer Yaojen Chuang, whose work has featured at the Venice Biennale's Architecture Exhibition. Plus it allows 100 Hoxton to double as a standalone cocktail destination – the 2-4-1 cocktail hour (5-7pm) helps too. |
Upshot |
A sophisticated alternative to the Kingsland Road offerings. |
