We're beginning the weekend with some OTT sandwiches (from a barbershop), some underground partying and a trip to Far Rockaway. But for those wanting some sit down affairs, we've got sherry tastings and brunch in Belgravia. And if our October Culturalist wasn't enough, we're hitting up the National Gallery and checking out some Banksys. Happy days!

EAT:
F.A.T by Freddie
  PARTY:
The Hydra

Move over ham and cheese sandwiches, lunchtimes just got interesting. F.A.T by Freddie has set up a takeaway lunch counter, revamping the traditional sarnie with more inventive fills. Think kimchi and stilton, as well as duck pâté, pork and fennel meatballs (to name a few), with add-ons such as beets picked in bourbon and chillies. And news just in - the soft serve machine arrives on Saturday! So to celebrate F.A.T by Freddie will serve their softies by opening tomorrow (Saturday). Expect flavours of Salty Licorice, White Miso and Plum, Szechuan Pepper Pretzel and Salt Caramel, and Liquid Cheesecake and Donut.   The Hydra is back and set for a beast of a party. Teaming up with Belgian techno label R&S records to celebrate its 30th birthday party, expect a techno heavy set led by Detroit icon Derrick May and digital funk-obsessed Space Dimension Controller. Electro, funk, techno and bass: this may not be one for the fainthearted but it's selling out fast, so book now!

SATURDAY

EAT:
Drakes Tabanco
  DRINK:
Far Rockaway

London is set for another dousing in sherry. After the success of Copita and Barrica comes Drakes Tabanco. Although the sherries - served direct from the barrel - may be the main stars of this Tavern, we say book a table at the back and tuck into the Andalusian-inspired menu. Go for the Iberico pork tongue, goose rillettes or vegetarian options of air-dried mojama, smoked scallops and gravadlax. And if you want to make the most of Tabanco, there is always the sherry matching tasting menu or takeaway option (filled and bottled straight from the barrel).   Far Rockaway has opened, and it's a big one. The New York-inspired 400 capacity space is abuzz with cocktails on tap, street art and comic books (4000 of them). Skateboards hang from the ceiling while hand-painted totem poles, murals and sculptures make up the rest of the décor. Expect DJs on constant rotation with tonight's man of the hour, Dom Chung taking to the decks for an electro buzz. And for sustenance in between, it's NY all the way – think pizza slices, slow roasted baby back cola ribs and knickerbocker glory desserts.

BANKSY IN NEW YORK

Banksy has taken a vacay to the streets of New York for a one-month residency, with a new artwork promised everyday. The elusive street artist began his vigilante show, which he has coined Better Out Than In, in the LES with a painting of street urchins (it's already been painted over). Moving through NYC, the notorious street artist has left a trail of art behind him, from a delivery truck converted into a mobile garden in the East Village to a floating heart balloon covered in plasters in Bushwick. Can't hop over the pond? Track his residency at @BanksyNY on Instagram.

ART:
Facing the Modern: The Portrait in Vienna 1900
  Brunch:
Pont St.

Now something for the traditionalists. The masters of the Austrian-Hungarian empire circa 1900: Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele and Oskar Kokoschka have come to town. The National Gallery's exhibition Facing the Modern: The Portrait in Vienna 1900 traces the upheavals leading to World War One via the portraits of the early expressionists with a focus on the distinctive strokes of the Viennese artists before 1918. It's time to see Klimt outside of the context of a university bedroom.   Belgravia: not our usual stomping ground, but the latest seafood opening, Pont St. at Belgraves Hotel has us making tracks. Having won Young Chef of the Year in 2001, head chef Sophie Michell is heading up a kitchen inspired by her time spent in California, Australia and the Mediterranean. Expect plates of crab cakes benedict with jalapeno hollandaise and foul mudammas with grilled akkawi cheese. As for sweeter options? Think cinnamon French toast topped with caramelized apples, or pancakes with white peaches and macadamias. And being Belgravia, it's all about the white linens, smoked mirrors and velvet banquettes.
