We're kicking off the weekend with street food and a culture fix with modern classic Mojo. Then there's some vino drinking on the cards at an intimate Fitzrovia wine bar, and dancing to be done. Otherwise, there's steak on the menu, and a vintage furniture fair to check out as well. Plus, W Verbier's search for a resident DJ semi finals are in full swing. Happy weekend! |

TURNING JAPANESE |

UJ RESTAURANT ROUNDUP |
London's restaurant scene is turning Japanese. There's the recently opened Koya Bar (which you've probably heard about), opened next door to the original with express service and a smaller menu (plus an innovative English breakfast udon option). Likewise, Tonkotsu - famous for their two-day-cooked pork ramen-recently opened a Hackney outpost. Then there's newcomer Sticks 'n' Sushi, opening in Covent Garden this Saturday - expect salmon carpaccio with trout roe and Japanese-inspired cocktails. And coming soon? Scott Hallsworth's izakaya-style Kurobuta is due this autumn in Marble Arch and Masterchef Tim Anderson's Nanban is "hopefully opening soon" in Hackney (we've been waiting for a while!). And of course, there's the much-hyped Nobu hotel set to open in increasingly posh Shoreditch early next year. Now all we need is the ramen burger to make its way across the pond. |

HAWKER HOUSE |

MOJO |
The Street Feast crew are at it again, this time attracting food fanatics with Hawker House. Inspired by Singapore's night markets, it has all the Street Feast picks you've come to know and love (think Breddo's tacos, Yum Bun, Sorbitium and more). As for the drinks? There's a Hot Bar, Whisky Bar, and Street Vin's wine offering to choose from. Best of all: Hawker House is indoors so you can stave off the winter chill.
Now for some culture. Jez Butterworth's 1996 West End hit Mojo is back, with a line up of the country's best young talents (Ben Whishaw, Daniel Mays and Rupert Grint). Showing at the Harold Pinter Theatre, this modern classic explores Soho's underworld in the 1950s – think pill-popping gangsters, cutthroat rivalries and showbiz's seedy side. Book now! |

Here at UJ we love throwing our support behind local institutions. And when said local is Paradise by Way of Kensal Green, we say – it's time to cross the canal. The addition of a second bar and conservatory means the North West 'one stop shop' just got bigger: head here to have a drink, a meal, a late-night party or to simply bust a tune. And to help you do all three Paradise is giving one UJ reader a chance to throw a bash for five of their nearest and dearest. Expect a three course dinner, three hours of karaoke with a £300 bar tab thrown in for good measure. |

JACQUES GREENE & FRIENDS |
It's a good time to be a wine lover in London: following a slate of wine bar openings (including UJ fave Sager + Wilde) comes The Remedy. The brainchild of David Clawson and Renato Catgiu (formerly at Terroirs), The Remedy offers up wines with a natural, European focus in the heart of Fitzrovia. They've got food covered, too with suppliers such as La Fromagerie and The Ham and Cheese Co. on board. Expect ham and cheese plates, as well as specialist dishes such as buttered cod cheeks with saffron and lemon mayonnaise. Bottoms up! |
Hit the dance floor at Village Underground, where Montreal–based producer Jacques Greene is making an appearance, in town for his only UK show this year. Expect an expertly curated line up, with Greene's pick of emerging talents on the decks. Kit Grill, Gorgeous Children and Roly Porter are on the genre-spanning agenda (think dubstep, electronica, techno and bass), along with a set from the big man himself. Get ready for a late night - the sets go 'til 4am. |

VINTAGE FURNITURE FLEA MARKET |
London's meat market isn't slowing down any time soon. The London Malmaison is getting in on the action, opening Strip Bar & Steak, a NYC-style joint. Strip steak (Black Angus prime grade beef by way of the Big Apple) is the name of the game, cut to order from 250g up to 550g for true carnivores. The basement restaurant also offers decadent sides (lobster mac & cheese, anyone?), and there are shaken drunken sundaes for the sweet toothed. |
Apartment looking drab? Make tracks to Bethnal Green for an interiors refresh, where York Hall is hosting the Vintage Furniture Flea Market. Forget your flat-packed Ikea numbers, this market is all about mid-century modern pieces: think everything 1950s and beyond, from Ercol chairs to G-Plan coffee tables. There's also barware, ceramics, textiles, lighting and more on offer- we say visit early to nab the best pieces. |

An opera composed by Mozart |
Sponsored listing |
Brimming with stunning theatricality and extraordinary imagination, don't miss this spectacular new staging of one of the greatest and most popular operas ever written.
Mozart's beloved magical tale is a light-hearted but profound examination of man's search for love and his struggle to attain wisdom and virtue. Complicite's artistic director Simon McBurney brings this innovative new interpretation to the London Coliseum stage – making the orchestra a visible part of the action with projections throughout. Conducted by Gergely Madaras (ENO Charles Mackerras Fellow), The Magic Flute features ENO Harewood Artist Ben Johnson as Tamino, American soprano Devon Guthrie as Pamina, Roland Wood as the bird-catcher Papageno and James Creswell as Sarastro.
