Let's end the penultimate month by getting schnit-faced, a breakfast courtesy of Grey Goose, and a sample sale – thank you Yasmin Sewell. Party wise we're doing it lumberjack style, plus heading south of the river. As for Sunday, we're flexing our mussels.

UJ INVITE: EMBER YARD |
#UJFIRSTLOOK |
Our friends over at Salt Yard are at it again, with a new restaurant on the cards: Ember Yard. Opening on Berwick Street, Ember Yard is smoking hot (literally), with a focus on cooking over charcoal, Spanish and Italian style: think smoked chorizo skewers, salt cod fritters and Iberico pork fat chips. Best of all, you're invited to get a #UJfirstlook at the restaurant: join us on opening night, next Tuesday December 3 for gratis food (the entire menu will be served canapé sized so you can try it all!), smoke-flavoured cocktails, red and white vino hand-picked by master sommelier Alejandro Giminez, and music from DJ Malik Alary of La Musique de Faubourg fame. It'll all go down in the restaurant's uber cool basement space… we can't wait! |
We have 20 pairs of tickets to give away. If you want in, just fill out our competition form. Urban Junkies at Ember Yard, 7pm-9pm, Tuesday December 3, 60-61 Berwick St, W1F 8SU |

PLATTERFORM PRESENTS SKYLODGE |
The brainchild of brothers Ed & Ben Robson, this is the veal deal. Inspired by the recipes recorded by their Austrian Oma and Opa, expect all the crumbed classics (wiener, chicken and pork) with some welcome additions that steer clear of beer hall classics – think smoked eel with bacon and quail's egg and trout with spinach, bacon and mushrooms. As for the spritzers, they're cold, fruity and mixed with prosecco. Time to get schnit-faced. |
Bye Coppa, hiya Skylodge! We're welcoming this pop up rooftop lodge, which promises toasty cocktails of the hot buttered rum, smoked pine, and gingerbread variety. Food follows the same lumberjack principles: smoky maple baby back ribs, wolf waffles with mamma's pulled pork, mountain cheese and wild mushroom brioche and sloppy joes. Expect live acoustics around the campfire every Saturday and a lumberjack Olympics (yes, really) – but if that's not your bag, grab a seat by the fire and have yourself some DIY toasted marshmallows. |

Boulangerie François |
Our favourite (Grey) Goose has spread its wings and launched a pop-up artisanal bakery, Boulangerie François. Expect the same ethos of the vodka brand – but with bread and jams. Think freshly baked bread made from the same wheat used in Grey Goose, sans vodka, unlike their Grey Goose confitures made using each of the Grey Goose flavoured vodkas: L'Orange, Le Citron and La Poire. Plus, it's all in the name of charity so the loaves and jams are technically free – but donations are the name of the game with all proceeds going to The Elton John Aids Foundation – so dig deep people. |

XOYO LOVES at The Coronet |

We start Saturday with a fashion fix – and it's a goodie. Paper Mache Tiger, the wholesale agency aligned with fashion supreme Yasmin Sewell, is throwing open its doors for a sample sale. Get there early and grab bagfuls of Être Cécile tees (#UJloves), some Tata Naka, Silver Spoon Attire and Francis Leon wares—there's even exclusive Beach in the East products from Henry Holland (eyes on the polka dot dungarees) and Thomas Tait. Watch out Sewell, we're coming at ya!
Suffice to say we're fans of XOYO's Cowper street residence. But this weekend, they're heading South, throwing a party at the Coronet Theatre, and we want in. Part of the XOYO Loves series, expect a heady mix of disco and house from headliners Horse Meat Disco, Friendly Fires and Mylo. Hurry – tickets are still up for grabs. |

KRISTEN MCELWAIN, BOOKER AT RESIDENT ADVISOR |
With Resident Advisor's massive party fast approaching (December 13), we thought it was high time to catch up with their inimitable booker Kristen McElwain. RA's first party in London since 2011 (yes, it's been a long wait) sees French techno master Laurent Garnier at the top of the bill, with a dynamic selection of names joining him: think Laurel Halo, Function, Tessela, Florian Kupfer, and Andrew Ashong. According to Kristen, Resident Advisor "wanted to highlight some of the best of the year, as well as some established artists that continue to maintain the utmost relevancy and respect." And if you're in need of some new tunes, look no further: Kristen whipped up a playlist for us – check it out here. The event is selling out fast, so book now - see you on the dance floor.

Mussel Men: Sunday Seafood Roast |
And now for some Balearic spirit. The ICA's latest exhibition Ibiza: Moments in Love takes us back to the '80s, when the White Isle took off as a pleasure island and acid house was born – before the days of Ushuaia and Paris Hilton residencies. Expect a beautiful curation of original photographs, posters, installations and slideshows of days gone by, and to really pump the vibes, we hear there will be some D.I.S.C.O. If inspiration takes hold, download our app and start some summer 2014 planning. |
The Mussel Men have found a roof-covered home on Kingsland Road and are bringing with them their usual buckets of mussels, bottles of prosecco and the welcome addition of London's first Seafood Sunday Roast – genius. Alongside their normal bubble-filled offerings, the Men are venturing into the land of cocktails with promises of a 2am license on Fridays and Saturdays – party season ahoy. Plus, we have it on good authority that Captain Bob has started flexing his thumb muscles – 1,2,3,4 we declare a thumb war. |

THE CALEDONIAN, A WALDORF ASTORIA HOTEL |
In A Sentence |
A grand dame gets a facelift. |
About |
The Caley has long been part of the Edinburgh landscape, having opened its doors as a railway hotel in 1903. Recently welcomed into the Hilton fold, the hotel has just undergone a shiny £24 million refurbishment. Its location, smack bang on Princes Street, puts you in the heart of all the shopping, eating and partying action the city has to offer. |
Décor |
Entering The Caledonian, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel is like stepping back in time: the hotel's place in history is apparent everywhere you look, from the grand staircase and the opulent stained glass windows to the double wide corridors, built so that ladies could easily pass each other in their voluminous ballgowns. The rooms are equally luxe, but with modern twists: spacious with awe-inspiring castle views, they boast vast marble bathrooms with rain showers and Ferragamo products, iPod docks, Nespresso machines, and art deco lamps. Design features such as subtle tartan textiles, gilded wallpaper and dark wood panelling run throughout the hotel, marrying old and new. |
Highlights |
The vast hotel could easily feel impersonal; luckily the staff, from the dapper doormen to the sommelier, are uber knowledgeable and genuinely friendly. The Guerlain spa – the only one of its kind in the UK – is super indulgent. |
Eat and Drink |
The hotel is a foodie nirvana, with three (count 'em) restaurants on offer. Our favourite was The Pompadour by Galvin, a sumptuous French affair spearheaded by the inimitable Galvin brothers – haute cuisine at its finest. For those in the mood for something more casual, Galvin Brasserie de Luxe offers up local and seasonal specialities (we say head straight to the seafood counter), while Peacock Alley is a must-visit for afternoon tea if the girls are in tow. Those who like a slug (or two) of spirits should head to The Caley Bar for an extensive Scotch whisky menu. If you eat your way through the hotel, Timberyard around the corner is also worth a visit. |
Other Things To Check Out |
Though The Fringe has rolled out of town, there's still a lot to do. The Scottish National Portrait Gallery is well worth a visit for an exhibition of Purple and Dazed + Confused photographer Viviane Sassen's arresting work. As for shopping, Scottish textiles fit seamlessly into the grunge redux: take advantage of the well-priced cashmere and tartan (Saint Laurent, eat your heart out). Plus, there ain't no party like an EDN party… if you don't have New Year's plans, make your way to Edinburgh for Hogmanay. |
Top Tip |
Book a (newly renovated) suite for amped up luxury… let's just say there's a reason Sean Connery stays here every time he's in town. |
Why Go Now |
With Edinburgh only a stone's throw away, this is the perfect time to sneak out of London for a quick break before the silly season. Plus, Virgin Atlantic Little Red* has just launched a LDN> EDN service from Heathrow, so getting there couldn't be simpler. |
