HOLIDAY ISSUE 2013

And here it is, our final newsletter of the year! We've embraced the festive season to bring you a feast of food options, with pork, a swanky Christmas lunch and shellfish galore. There's also some bubbly in the mix, a snowy cinema, Christmas markets, UJ-approved gift picks, a NYE bash, and a New Year's Day party too. It wouldn't be December without random acts of kindness (hi, WestJet) – head down to St Martin's Courtyard for a Christmas miracle of your own, where they're giving out gifts at random to 100 visitors. Happy holidays, and see you in 2014.

FEAST I: BLACKFOOT

It may be December, but forget the turkey: it's all about pork at Tom Ward and Allegra McEvedy's new Exmouth Market venture, Blackfoot. The ex-Leon crew have embraced all things porcine: think porchetta sandwiches with salsa verde (served straight from the counter, deli-style), slow-roasted belly with treacle and Szechuan glaze or Cherrystone clams with chilli crackling. There's an inventive drinks menu, too, with rhubarb highballs, British kirs and French wine on tap. Plus we hear that brunch is in the works for next year…we can't wait.

Blackfoot, 12pm-10.30pm Mon-Sat
Mains from £9
46 Exmouth Market, EC1R 4QE

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS: CHRIS BRACEY, GOD'S OWN JUNKYARD

UJ fave Chris Bracey is a busy man. After lighting up the world with his neon art and creating an Ultimate Gin & Tonic, he's now re-opening his electric wonderland God's Own Junkyard. The studio is full of Bracey's work for The Dark Knight, Alexander McQueen, David LaChapelle and more. So if you've had your fill of the usual Christmas lights (Carnaby Street, Oxford Street, etc), get down to Walthamstow and check out some lighting of a different variety, or drop by Scream Gallery to see Bracey's work in Telling Tales, a typography show on 'til February 8. Should you want to pick up some neon goodies for yourself (or those on your Christmas list), Bracey's even got a pop up at Selfridges. We told you he was busy.

ART BASEL MIAMI BEACH 2013

UJ ROUNDUP

So, it was UJ's second year at Art Basel Miami Beach, and although we were a bit more organised this time round, it was still hectic. From choosing which parties to go to (Takashi Murakami and Pharrell at Silencio, or the Vuitton after party at Le Baron), where to eat (Yardbird or Joe's), and which shows to visit (the main fair, Design Miami or Wynwood), it was a whirlwind. Yet as always, we came away super inspired… and caught some sunshine while we were at it. Fun.

Special thanks to Stevie King @ Purple PR and Federica Amati @ No. 8 for sorting us out.
