Dry January, detoxes, and resolutions. No thanks. Instead we're looking to burn it up with a highland fling, try some port and party at Village Underground. Plus, we've got some Bones to pick and paella to cook. And if you're after a culture fix – it's White Cube to the rescue. |

If you haven't had the chance to experience the radical work of Paul Klee, make a beeline for the Tate Modern, stat. The
EY Exhibition: Paul Klee-Making Visible showcases the witty and inventive paintings, drawings and watercolours of the legendary artist. Often mentioned in the same breath as Matisse, Picasso and his Bauhaus contemporary Kandinsky, Klee cuts a daring figure in European modernism- and there is still so much to discover about him. Check out his work for yourself, with small, expressive canvases grouped as Klee himself displayed them: it's your chance to understand Klee's art as he intended and to appreciate the impact of this fascinating artist. Don't miss it- book now! |

MIXMAG LIVE PRESENTS TENSNAKE AT VILLAGE UNDERGROUND |
The subterranean trend continues. For those wanting to avoid the likes of Be At Ones and Dirty Dicks, head to speakeasy bar Discount Suit Company. Originally a storeroom for an old suit company, now it's all hidden doors, exposed brick, dim lighting and stiff cocktails (the only suits to be found are the Liverpool street spillovers). It's small, intimate and open 'til 1am – and tables can be booked. |
Now, head to Village Underground and party with Tensnake and Horse Meat Disco. The former, having finished 2013 with a string of dates under his belt (including playing at Le Grand Bazaar with Pharrell Williams and headlining at Pacha) will be bringing his disco-centric beats to the decks alongside London's conglomerate Horse Meat Disco. As expected, early bird tickets have sold out, but standard tickets are still available. |

Grab your tartans, pipe the haggis and drink some whiskey, it's Burns Night. Read on for a wee round up of places to toast the Bard of Ayrshire. First up, for those who want a smoking (sorry) good time, the Princess Victoria is doing their own ode to the haggis in the form of a three-course wood fired 'Ashes, Smokes and Burns' menu. For a more traditional three-course meal, head to the Rivington Shoreditch: think cock-a-leekie soup and black faced haggis. Alternatively, if you're after something more on the whiskey and kilt-centric side, Mr Fogg's is partnering with Glenmorangie Single Malt Whiskey for a night of bagpipes, whiskey, and haggis canapés - kilts are optional but preferred. And lastly, our favourite Mussel Men are giving us a hootenanny in the form of a live ceilidh band, a mobile cocktail bar, Scottish street vendors and highland games. |

CHURCHILL'S PORT HOUSE |
After a bit of a hiatus, chicken is back on the menu. Bones, the latest addition to Kingsland Road, is bucking last year's fried trend and giving the rotisserie a work out. The chicken may be the main star (whole, half or quarter with sides) but dishes such as chickpeas and smoked morcilla with honey and paprika, cured pork loin, rice and lentil pilaf and a spiced aubergine ragout are a few standouts. Plus, it's by the same people behind The Grocery next door (Shoreditch's answer to Whole Foods) – so expect healthy, fresh and organic ingredients. |
The flurry of openings in December means this Port House went under our radar, but better late than never. Let's start with the strong port list which includes old, new and even a white option (who knew). Next, we have the accompanying tapas menu, with each dish matched to a tipple – think foie gras mi-cuit with figs and a Finest Reserve port jelly; pork, chestnut and apricot terrine served with cinnamon poached pears and filo–pastries with morcilla Iberica – to name a few. So now that you know, get in quick as it's only here until 22 February. |

SHOP:
BRINDISA FOOD ROOMS BRIXTON |
Travelling German artist Franz Ackermann has touched down in London for his latest namesake exhibition focused on urban landscapes and part of his ongoing mental map series. Highly colourful and conceptual, Ackerman records his 'map' of a new city with paintbrushes, installations and murals. Based on nothing but his memory, don't expect miniature identikit models but rather abstract acid bright canvases. |
It's January, you know the drill: healthy eating and home cooking are on the agenda. Joy to our ears, Brindisa has opened its Food Rooms. Similar to the Borough Market Shop – expect authentic tapas ingredients from Iberico hams, salt cod and cheese to piquillo peppers, sofrito sauce and smoked paprika. This means, time to perfect the homemade paella and llesques recipes. |
